Dance with Kayley T.

As a teacher, I am influenced by the way that I was taught when I was younger. I want to apply the good things that I saw in action from my teachers, but also avoid some of the negative things I saw happening in some of my former teacher’s classrooms. I would like students to think of me as a friend, but more importantly their instructor and leader. I like to challenge my students, and help them to do their best work. If I see them struggling with something, I try to assist them the best that I can. For example, if I am teaching tap dance to the students and see a student struggling, I model the step for them, and let them try it. I also go sound by sound, or count by count with the student mirroring me, to help them get the step that they’re struggling with. This also helps to the student relax, and feel that they can work with me. I have chosen the career path of a dance teacher because I love seeing students grow and develop over time. I find that very rewarding. I love watching them finally becoming successful with movement after struggling with it. I love seeing them work hard on and enjoy something that I have created for them to do. I also enjoy seeing my students getting excited over something new that they are learning, and seeing the excitement in their eyes to try it. I feel that those are the most important reasons why I started teaching and why I continue to want to teach dance.
