Learning languages should be fun! I am a lover of words and if you’re learning a new language, you know how important and empowering words can be. Improving your language skills opens up opportunities in your social and professional life. As a teacher of English and American Sign Language (with over 25 years experience) and a student of French and Spanish, I love finding new ways to help people learn to communicate. I look forward to working with you as you learn to sign ASL or improve your written or spoken English skills.
I have been using American Sign Language since childhood and decided at a young age that I wanted to teach Deaf and hearing students. To support myself through college, I was a nanny and then an educational interpreter for Deaf students. I have also done some interesting interpreting work for Deaf adults. I have taught sign language to students ranging in age from toddlers to senior adults. Fun fact: I once spent a semester in a French immersion program in Quebec where I did not speak any English for 8 weeks, only French! My teaching degree is from the University of West Florida, near the beautiful beaches of Pensacola. I moved to Virginia last year to enjoy family and to be closer to the Blue Ridge Mountains that I love. I spend my free time visiting historic sites, taking pictures of nature, and playing with my nieces and nephews.
