Broadway Singing with Kay M.

I am a Black singer-songwriter and actress from High Point, North Carolina. Coming from a family of musicians, my passion for the performing arts has led to her training in several fields including film/television, theatre, classical performance, and R&B performance. I received my Bachelors of Arts degrees in Music and Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I am currently working on her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College. I plan to build a performance career that spans across genres. I strive for a duality that is exemplified in the freedom and emotional range that soul music demands and the disciplined conflict that taking space in the classical realm entails. As a voice teacher, I place a strong emphasis the individuality of each of my students. I base my teaching methods in classical technique so that everyone can establish a healthy basis of phonation and then we begin to expand on that healthy technique into the genres that really interest my students. My studio stands out because through classical training, I have found that all genres of music and vocal pedagogy can be equally efficient and rewarding for the human voice. I pride myself in knowing that I have created a space where artists in every genre and can come and train as their full, authentic selves.
