I am a well respected, professional flutist and flute teacher in the northeast Phoenix metropolitan area. My students enjoy successes such as: First chairs in their school bands; Top ratings and winnings in solo festivals and competitions; High school Regional and All State. I also enjoy working with students returning to the flute after many years, helping to refine their skills so that they can enjoy their community bands, orchestras, flute choirs and playing in their worship services.

About Katrina K.

I am a respected, professional flutist and flute teacher in the northeast Phoenix metropolitan area. I play principal flute in the Symphony of the Southwest, Phoenix Opera and Four Seasons Orchestra as well as a frequent soloist in many chamber groups here in the valley. Lessons are given in my home and online, always with a caring and nurturing atmosphere. My students enjoy successes such as: First chairs in their school bands; Section leadership skills; Top ratings and winnings in solo festivals and competitions; High school All Region and All State placements; Phoenix Youth Symphony and Youth Symphony of the Southwest. I also enjoy working with students returning to the flute after many years, helping to refine their skills so that they can enjoy their community bands, orchestras, flute choirs and playing in their worship services.

Lessons given in person are ideal. My focus is to ensure I uphold the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation to protect everyone while we are on a one on one atmosphere in my home studio. While I have always been committed to cleanliness in my studio, I implement the following procedures:

Lessons are given so that we are spread six feet apart as well as two music stands on either end of the room. I maintain the best social distancing possible.

I wash my hands after you arrive and prior to our lesson.

I have sanitizing wipes and wipe off the music stand, pencil, tuner, metronome and any chairs we might use.

I am asking anyone who enters my home to do the following:

Please wash your hands after you get here. I always keep hand sanitizer and I stock with paper towels.

I will look for different ways we can diagnose a problem with your instrument and will suggest a repair person.

Please feel free to wash your hands and/or use sanitizer before you leave.

For the time being, all cancellation fees will be waived for illness. If you are feeling sick, please do not hesitate to cancel. In return, should I feel any type of cold/flu-like symptoms I will cancel our lesson.

If you do not feel comfortable with lessons in my home studio, I give online lessons through Zoom. While they are not ideal for the best progress, they may be the best source during this Covid-19 outbreak.

I enjoy bringing the love of flute into people's lives by growing, increasing skill and becoming better at their craft no matter how they enjoy playing: professionally, orchestra, band, flute choir, casually, and purely for the enjoyment.

I can't sing the praises of my daughter's association with Ms. King. My daughter is a special needs young lady, and started the flute as a way to help her 'break out of her shell'. It took some trial and error for Katrina ... but she broke through to my daughter and now she loves the flute and can't stop practicing. Katrina really is a life saver ... giving my daughter confidence, joy and self esteem like no other teacher has. I'm so happy we connected with Katrina.

Katrina has been an amazing teacher for my son. She helped in so much. He was able to get into the school of Music at the University, He made 2nd chair for regionals and was ready for all state. I wish she was going away with him to college to stay his teacher. Thank you so much Katrina you have a true talent and are an amazing teacher.

She's just the best. So very knowledgeable, but never talks 'down to me'. I was having trouble w my embouchure and now my tone is so much better than before Katrina King. Now she's helping me with triple tonguing. I want her for a teacher always.

I have lately felt that I have been learning so much more than I would have if Ms. King was not teaching me. She is bubbly, enthusiastic and loves to see others learn.

My tone has always been fuzzy and I've never been able to get a consistent sound. I had tried a few teachers and never really got what I was looking for. After starting lessons with Katrina, my tone improved quickly and with more time, I have the sound I've always wanted.

Katrina is enthusiastic, encouraging, and upbeat! My son has progressed rapidly on the flute after studying with her. I appreciate that Katrina does not "spoon-feed" him the rhythms; she gently reminds him that he can figure them out on his own. She always has a positive teaching disposition - highly recommended!"

I strongly recommend Katrina King as a flute instructor after taking lessons from her for several years. She not only plays the flute professionally but also obviously loves playing the flute and wants to share that love with her students. Her philosophy is that if a student does not learn a flute technique that it is the teacher's responsibility and she will find a different way to teach the technique until the student learns it. She has high expectations for her students, will push them to grow in their flute playing, while simultaneously working alongside the student to achieve their goals. If I have a question or a problem with regard to a lesson, she will promptly respond by email to my questions. Each lesson I find Katrina fully present, listening for improvements and making encouraging remarks when she hears them, while patiently correcting any mistakes I make and demonstrating how to play that part correctly.

"I took flute for two years, in high school. Didn't touch it, again, until age 65.
I was blessed to find Katrina King to help me learn flute, again. Now I'm playing in a band, for senior players. She is a competent/knowledgable, kind, and encouraging teacher. I have great respect and love for her as a teacher, and a friend.
I would highly recommend Katrina, at what ever level a flutist is.
Playing the flute brings me great joy, as I see steady growth. I'm always learning something new."
