Music is so much more than organized notes written on a piece of paper. Music is a beautiful language and powerful phenomenon that should be felt, experienced, and shared daily. I want every student to believe and feel that playing the flute is fun and worth sharing with others! I have been playing the flute for 16 years, have nearly a decade of performance experience, and have experience in private flute instruction. I specialize in teaching beginner flute students, and as your teacher, it is my primary goal to not only help you learn how to produce a lovely sound on your instrument and read music but to encourage a deeper love and appreciation for the music itself that goes beyond the classroom. As you learn to breathe life into your flute and play songs, you will also be building a solid foundation in note reading, music theory, sight-reading, proper technique, and more! All ages are welcome, and lessons will be customized and catered to meet your individual needs and goals. Now, let’s make some beautiful sounds!

About Katie M.

Hello! Music is my delight and passion, and it has been a significant source of both joy and healing in my life. I began my flute journey in 6th grade and making music has been the bliss bringing me to life and making me smile ever since. With each lesson, it is my primary goal to instill that same love of music and the flute in every student. I am endlessly fascinated by how music exists in the world, how it communicates, its unique healing abilities, and how playing an instrument benefits our brains in so many wonderful ways, and I'm always excited to share its many wonders with others. I have experience playing as principal flute in symphonic school bands, marching band, flute choir, and woodwind ensembles. I have held various leadership roles such as section leader and music librarian and have competed in Solo and Ensemble, played in district honor bands, and was nominated for the Georgia Governor’s Honors program in the area of music for two consecutive years. My lessons are student-driven and involve meeting you at your musical ability and knowledge by creating a lesson plan specifically for your goals and success. In every lesson, you will receive constructive and positive feedback and recommended material to include in your practice routine each week in order to maximize your learning experience. While I maintain high expectations of my students, I teach with patience, kindness, and encouragement so that your learning experience is as easy, stress-free, and fun as possible! I want my students to believe that anything is possible as long as they keep working hard. I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your musical journey!

Katie is one of the most patient and willing individuals I know when it comes to teaching others no matter the subject. She has taught how to read music with uncanny ease. She is teaching herself (and her mother) how to play the Ukulele by note reading. Her flute renderings are fun and soothing to listen to. She never stops working on her knowledge and understanding of music.

Katie Miller has a wonderful personality, she has a natural ability for teaching. I have dyslexia and trying to learn how to read music has been challenging for me. She has been able to break down music theory with the use of color and other examples that has helped me understand this concept. I’m enjoying learning how to read music.
