When working with me, you'll be working with a classically trained professional who sings opera for a living, but grew up singing pop, jazz and musical theater and was in an a cappella group for four years in school. I sing and teach everything from Mozart to Beyonce, and promise I have the chops to do both! I have many years of teaching experience, whether it was beginning vocal classes at the University of Southern California, individual private lessons for teenagers and adults of all ages, and conducting children's choirs in music camps. I have worked with individuals on all levels and would love to help you discover a little more about what makes your voice special, and help you navigate ways to sing in a healthy and more effective way. My students have gone on to perform full recitals, gotten into musical theater degree programs, and have gone on to be singer-songwriters and more. (I've recently recruited them to write me reviews on this website, and please let me know if you need references!). No matter what your interest and your level, I'd love to meet and work with you!

About Katie B.

Hi, I'm Katie! I'm a vocalist currently living in Phoenix with my husband and my puppy, and I will soon be moving to Chicago. I specialize in teaching young adults, but have experience with all ages. My vocal studies are concentrated in classical & opera. I have been a resident artist for two years at Arizona Opera, and Opera Colorado prior to that. I will soon by joining the Lyric Opera of Chicago in May.

HOWEVER, despite my classical career, I also have plenty of experience in other genres. I am a lover of pop & jazz music and have taught many students in musical theater, as well. I grew up listening to Christina Aguilera and Beyonce and Alicia Keys and Ella Fitzgerald.

I am a people person: I love to get to know my students & learn about their musical interests, as well as their interests outside the practice room. Singing isn't only about technique: Your life experiences & beliefs have an enormous impact on what you bring to a song. Having worked with many students and having been a student for fifteen years myself, I know how important the relationship between teacher & student is. I'm confident that I'm the right person to help you grow & to learn both as an artist & a human being.

Katie is patient and amazing. She's willing to work on different styles of pieces with you and you'll leave each vocal coaching session feeling accomplished as well as excited to practice at home.

I took voice lessons with Katie at the University of Southern California for two years and they were consistently the highlight of my week. Alongside being an excellent musician herself (with tons of training to qualify it), Katie is a patient, kind, and encouraging teacher. She emphasizes technique while allotting space for the creativity of her students to shine in areas of song choice and vocal style. As a theatre major, I credit working with Katie with helping me get cast in several main stage musicals at USC and improving my vocal technique overall. Working with Katie absolutely transformed me into a better and more confident singer. Plus, our sessions were a blast. I can't recommend Katie enough!

Katie is a true professional who makes every moment of learning an enjoyable one. I will never forget Katie’s reaction during our first lesson together when I told her I would be singing the national anthem at a baseball game the very next day…she was incredibly encouraging and our lesson was focused and productive. Katie is a talented singer, teacher and mentor, and I am very grateful for the knowledge and confidence she has given me!

Katie is such a wonderful and patient teacher. She will always meet you at your needs and gives you the necessary confidence one needs to perform as a vocalist. She is kind and extremely gifted and I was very fortunate to have her as my vocal coach at USC.

Katie is an incredible vocal teacher. I took her course twice because of how amazing it was to work with her. She’s naturally personable and made sure that I was comfortable and at ease. She pays careful attention and finds different ways to help us reach our goal and to also enjoy the process. Katie is incredibly professional with a focus on making sure that I sang in a healthy way to not cause any damage or injury to my vocal chords. Even beyond the course she has given me such a sense of support and I am so thankful to have taken her course. Not only that, just listening to her sing is a testament to how talented she is!

Katie is a phenomenal vocal teacher!! I had the pleasure of taking classes with her while at USC and her teaching methods really stick! If she ever explained something to me and I didn't understand, she would have alternative methods (yes, plural!) of explanation until it made sense to me. She makes learning to sing, enjoyable experience and definitely helps build out your voice and confidence! Can't recommend her enough!!

Katie Beck has been a true advocate for me over the years! She has always done that little bit extra from finding the most wonderful people to accompany me and sharing her music world with me. I learned a lot from her!

I took voice lessons with Katie for about a year. Katie was very knowledgable about singing and had many different approaches to explaining concepts, and always took the time to find one that made sense to me. I had never taken vocal lessons before and was nervous about singing, but Katie created an environment that was supportive, inviting and motivating.

I had Katie as my vocal coach for 2 years! I started
as a beginner knowing absolutely nothing about singing, but Katie helped me so much with my confidence level, technique and just everything about singing (even English as I’m not a native speaker). She is a lovely person with tons of positive energy and she really knows what she’s doing (I mean just listen to her sing and you will know). With her help I got into the musical theater minor at USC. Take her lessons and let the magic happen to you too!
