I have loved and played the accordion my entire life. I am largely self taught, but in recent years have studied with internationally known accordion performer and instructor Beverly Fess. She has introduced me to the many shades of accordion. I play for personal enjoyment, and also enjoy performing solo and with area dance bands.
I am new at teaching accordion, but I have taught in other areas through the years. I would like to teach beginning students of all ages. No thrill is greater than learning to play an instrument, and the accordion is an exciting way to start as well as an intriguing new idea for people already enjoying music performance.
I would also love to work with people who have had accordion experience in years past and would like to develop or refresh skills.
I am a novice accordionist. I have more enthusiasm than skills. Kathy is great at helping me improve.
She is not a routinised teaching machine. She's a skilled player, who makes time to share her talent, experience and enthusiasm. She never loses track of, and reminds me, this is all about having fun.
Yet she realizes that it's not fun unless your making progress. She's organized and takes responsibility to keep things moving. Our lessons, the schedule, my skills, even my wavering enthusiasm. She's warm, understanding, forgiving and steady. She's an excellent guide through what for me is new territory.
I especially appreciate how empathetic she is. She understands my struggles, remembering her own. She offers a helping hand to enable me to make the next step. Without being patronizing or impatient.
For me she's the right balance of insistent and supportive.
