    About Kathryn

Kathryn is an enthusiastic and patient contemporary string player specializing in teaching violin and viola. Growing up she played violin and viola in school and community orchestras, as well as bass in jazz bands and small ensembles. She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where she studied violin and viola. At Berklee, Kathryn majored in Film Scoring (writing music for film and TV), so she is accomplished in composition as well as performance. She has performed onstage with musicians from all over the world including: Brazilian singer Rosa Passos, Cuban bassist Cachao, alternative rock singer Paul Cole, and Christopher Guest from "This is Spinal Tap."

As a teacher, Kathryn utilizes her training in and experience playing a diverse range of styles in her lessons. She has been teaching private lessons for 8 years and has also taught music as a camp counselor, college tutor, and workshop leader. Whether you are looking to pick up a brand new instrument, learn a new style, or work on improving on what you already know, Kathryn can help you reach your goals.

I was really impressed with my daughter's first lesson. She was taught the instrument, how to hold it and some simple songs to practice. Kathryn was patient and sent me my daughter's homework. There was a great lesson plan and it was obvious Kathryn knows what she was doing.

Kathryn was very helpful and patient with Sadie. It was difficult because our connection wasn't great but she made the best of it.

Thanks so much, Kat! Cole responds so well to your gentle guidance, and he's motivated via your choice of slowly more challenging pieces. No complaints at all!

    Helpful, Patient

Kathryn is extremely helpful with beginners. She is patient, which is very important. She also gives very appropriate, easy to understand lessons which makes practicing on your own easy. Taking lessons with Kathryn is a great experience!
