As a teaching assistant at Eastman and at Northwestern University, she has given individual, private lessons to undergraduate and graduate violin students, under the supervision of her mentors. A registered Suzuki teacher, she incorporates other traditional study materials for a well-rounded approach to technique. Kate earned a Doctorate of Music in Violin Performance from Northwestern University. She received her Master's degree in violin performance from the Eastman School of Music. She also has the distinction of being one of the first to earn the Certificate in College and Community Music Teaching at Eastman. She earned her Bachelor's degree Summa Cum Laude from the University of California, Irvine. In addition to her teaching activities, Kate is a frequent coach and adjudicator of chamber music ensembles and orchestral sectionals and clinics. An active performer, she is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Elmhurst Symphony, where she has appeared as soloist on numerous occasions. Kate has performed as a soloist and recitalist in various venues in the Los Angeles, New York Chicagoland areas. *** Lesson Details *** The goal of lessons depends on what the student wants to gain - whether that means getting into their school orchestra, getting ready for college or simply for the sake of enjoyment and musical fulfillment. I work with the student to determine the best course of study to meet their needs along the way. I specialize in intermediate to advanced students who would like to further and refine their existing skills. This is determined on a case-by-case basis by finding out how long the student has studied and what repertoire they have learned. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a music stand. I would expect the student to provide their own instrument and sheet music. *** Specialties *** *Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.Classical Violin

I'm a teacher who has worked with Kate and her students. I'm always very impressed with her students, they are set up so well! Kate does a great job balancing technique basics with repertoire and musical knowledge. I would highly recommend her for any level, she is great with beginners as well as more advanced students.

Great Teacher Kate is a fantastic teacher. She taught our sometimes resistant 6 year old, and she was always patient with her and made her lessons fun. I highly recommend her!

My best music teacher ever! We are so happy to have Kate as our violin teacher. She is a professional who has great approach towards kids and manages to find the best way to teach them how to love the instrument, play it as a true artist and show them how to enjoy music. Our daughter adores her and always goes to the lessons with desire and leaves with a big smile on her face. She quickly learned the basics and now loves playing the violin and keeps practicing every day without being reminded to do so.
