Hi! I'm Katherine! I am a flutist, professor, pre-college flute teacher, curriculum writer, clinician, and speaker living in Georgia. Other than playing the flute and enjoying my career in music, I'm really into dogs, cooking, travel, and making lists. I love organization, planning, reading, and writing but not so much arithmetic. I leave the math to my brilliant husband who is basically a human calculator. Armed with my flute, sheepdog, family, friends, and laptop, I enjoy my rich life as a flutist, teacher, speaker, writer, chef, dog mom, entrepreneur, and volunteer. I have a doctorate in flute performance from the University of Washington as well as degrees in music education and flute performance from the University of Georgia. I am an experienced public school music teacher and currently teach college music classes at Georgia Gwinnett College. I make lessons as much fun and informative as possible. My personal goal for students is to feel comfortable and receptive to information during lessons. I expect students to practice daily so that we can achieve as much as possible during each lesson. I have also found that by holding students to high expectations from the beginning, they will excel much faster and flute lessons become even more rewarding. Even though I keep standards high, flute lessons are always fun and entertaining (often making use of a rubber chicken and a pair of wax lips). Students should be ready to work hard.
