Katherine is currently working towards her master’s degree in violin performance at the Lynn Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida and she studies with Tchaikovsky International Competition winner Elmar Oliveira. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in violin performance from DePaul University’s School of Music in Chicago, where she studied with three-time international gold medal winner, Ilya Kaler. Originally from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, she has served as concertmaster and section violin in numerous orchestras throughout the United States. Katherine was the co-concertmaster of both the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and the All Eastern Honors Orchestra in 2011 and was the concertmaster of the New Jersey All State and Regional Orchestras from 2006-2011. Katherine made her solo debut performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra in 2008. In 2009 she was a featured soloist with her high school orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York City and performed Bruch’s Violin Concerto with them as soloist the following year. She also enjoys performing with her brother Andrew, a violist, and the duo performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the Rowan Youth Orchestra in 2010. At DePaul she served as concertmaster of the opera orchestra, and as assistant concertmaster of the symphony orchestra. At Lynn, she has served as principal second violin of the Philharmonia and her string quartet was a finalist in the 2016 Lyric Chamber Music Society competition. In 2010 she was awarded the NJ Governor’s Award in Arts and Education and the same year, the mayor of Cherry Hill proclaimed April 12th “Katherine Baloff Day” in honor of her musical achievements and contributions to the community. She has enjoyed performing under such prestigious conductors as Guillermo Figueroa, Cliff Colnot, Daniel Boico, Luis Biava, Louis Scaglione, Michael Lewanski, and many others. Also an avid chamber musician, Katherine has attended numerous summer festivals at which she was mentored by such quartets as the Atrium Quartet, the Arianna Quartet and the Dali Quartet. Upcoming events in 2016 include performances with the Symphonia of Boca Raton, with the South Florida Symphnoy, and with grammy-winning violinist, Joshua Bell performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Katherine will also be joining the teaching staff at Lynn University’s Preparatory School.

Katherine is teaching my 5-year old daughter to play violin. My daughter is a high energy kid who is still learning letters in kindergarten so Katherine has had her work cut out for her to teach her to play and read music. However, with patience and clever ways of teaching I can see that my daughter is understanding the fundamentals of music and if anyone can teach my daughter to play violin, it's Katherine.

Highly Recommended! Confident and Talented Violin Instructor

It had been over 5 years since I picked up my violin, so I was feeling very guilty and afraid of resuming lessons after such a long break. Kat never once made me feel guilty about the break - she was so encouraging yet firm with her recommendations for getting back to the skill level where I once was.

After just two lessons, I noticed a significant improvement, and I'm so excited to continue to regain my confidence in the coming weeks. I can't recommend her enough! She's a pleasure to work with and I'm grateful to have found such a great teacher to instruct me in something I enjoy so much.
