The perfect lesson for the ultimate beginner sewer! In these lessons we will go over the following:

- Sewing safety and how to use a machine
- The sewing tools you'll need
- How to read, cut out, layout, and follow pattern instructions
- How to sew different stitches and using the correct length
- How to pin and sew a seam, finish seams and sew hems
- Sew a zipper or an elastic waistband

We will also be working towards sewing a basic pattern, either a tote bag or PJ bottoms or whichever project the student brings in that is a beginner's level

A lesson plan will be sent to the student before their first lesson outlining the guidelines and key skills you will be learning each session. This is more of a guideline for lessons, as I will be assessing your learning speed and adjusting the lessons as I see fit for your best learning experience.

Hello! My name is Karla and I love all things artsy and crafty.  I learned to sew when I was 9 and have been improving my skills since then by taking classes or just trying things out on my own.  Since I also have my degree in Theater and Dance I enjoy being a freelance costume designer for dance or theater companies; creating custom designs for their shows. I currently spend my free time creating products for my children's clothing line Karli Q Designs.

I signed up for this lesson because I had gotten stuck in my sewing project. I liked that we were able to jump right in to addressing the issue (as opposed to me spending a lot of time digging through tutorials online which never seem to answer my questions). Karla was able to get me unstuck quickly, which allowed time for us to discuss additional tips on the construction of my garment.

Karla was extremely helpful. I liked that we didn’t have to use a set plan, but that she had lesson plans if I was interested. She could cater her teaching to specific questions I had or skills I wanted to learn. We used the camera to display what we meant and to assess my progress. Highly recommend!

Karla was great! She was helpful and patient and have great feedback. I was skeptical about doing an online sewing class but she had a great camera which allowed her to zoom on her stitching so you could see exactly what to do! I will be signing up for more classes :)

Karla is an amazing designer and seamstress. Every time I see one of her creations I marvel at her skill! Plus she has a great personality for teaching -- she's caring, fun, communicative, and motivating. You would be in excellent hands with her as your instructor.

Karla is the BEST teacher EVER! Everyone knows the old saying "practice makes perfect", but with Karla it's "perfect practice makes perfect". In other words, she'll instruct you in the proper techniques from the beginning so you don't develop bad habits. If your just a beginner, or looking for more intermediate tutelage you couldn't be better off. I very strongly recommend trying her out. 
Don't be shy with questions either! she'll take the time to show you. Happy creating!
