    About Karl R.

Dr. Karl is a passionate musician and educator. Growing up on a farm in rural Minnesota, he began singing at a very early age, often serenading his father in the tractor during long days in the field. He soon started piano lessons with his mother and in school began playing French horn and cello. Karl was the member of several orchestras, bands, and choirs until his high school graduation, achieving All-State status in all three disciplines. In college, Karl studied cello performance and business. He went on to earn three advanced degrees in cello performance, culminating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2016. An active cellist, Karl frequently performs with area symphonies in addition to solo and chamber engagements. He has collaborated with many elite musicians including Joshua Bell, Nadja Solerno-Sonnenberg, Sergey Antonov, Béla Fleck, Amy Grant, Molly Ringwald, members of the Emerson and Juilliard quartets, and many others. Karl is a dedicated pedagogue, teaching cello students of all ages and abilities to play with purpose and joy. He is also an experienced music theory teacher. Karl resides in Greensboro, NC with his wife, a violist, and two young children. He enjoys reading and book collecting, traveling , running, baking, and tossing a frisbee.
