We will learn the very basic mechanics of how to paint with watercolors. We will explore different techniques in watercolor painting, including washes, wet in wet work, and glazing. There will be practice exercises each lesson that then will be applied to a painting. Working  in this beautiful medium is fun and rewarding. My lessons and classes are designed for the beginner just getting comfortable with watercolor, as well as the intermediate painter.

I love showing people how fun creating can be, and helping them tap into their own creativity no matter how deep down it may be buried! My passion is watercolor painting and I really want to share this amazing medium with you. All levels are welcome, especially those who have never tried watercolor before! 
I have a BFA from Kutztown University, with a concentration in Painting, and am currently a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. My work has been shown in curated exhibitions with the Newark Arts Alliance, the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and the Delaware Watercolor Society. I hold virtual lessons over the internet, so it's safe and convenient.

I learned so much during my first lesson! It far exceeded my expectations! I'm not new to watercolors, but Karen taught me things I have not heard before.  She's super nice and motivating and I can't wait for the next lesson!

We took this class as a family. We enjoyed learning how to paint watercolors together. Karen engaged us all with her fun weekly projects. She is so enthusiastic and encouraging.

Karen’s beginner watercolor class was a fun and easy atmosphere to learn in . She was very encouraging while demonstrating and talking about the skills we practiced while producing finished pictures.  I have a whole new respect for water and paint!

Instructor always had a lesson plan ready and each skill led to the project for the day....the practice sessions were well timed so students could become familiar with different techniques.

This class was a wonderful experience for learning beginning watercolor skills. I enjoyed Karen's pleasant engaging manner of instruction. She was very dynamic online can't imagine what it would have been like in person. I plan to take additional classes with her in the future to increase my skill level.

I have been very much enjoying Karen’s watercolor painting. classes. The class is fun and I am learning from it.  
At the beginning of each class , she starts with a helpful lesson on watercolor techniques and then she has us  proceed to working on our paintings. . She has a pleasant personality and provides the 
right amount of instruction and encouragement.
Because of COVID, our classes had to go virtual, but she has managed online teaching very well. She even purchased an additional camera, so that we can clearly see the technique she is demonstrating to us.

Karen is a talented artist and skilled teacher who is also a humble, honest and patient person. She listens, encourages and helps her students to feel confident, regardless of their level. Karen truly loves watercolor and her enthusiasm is infectious.

Karen is a natural teacher.  She has a nurturing style that immediately puts her students at ease.  Karen is open to questions but since she does not hesitate to share her knowledge, questions are pro-actively answered.  I enjoy her and have learned a great about the art of watercolor.

Karen was a great instructor!  She gave us a great introduction to watercolor paints, how to layer them and how to use them properly.  It was really helpful knowledge because I had never used watercolors before.  The start of class exercises were especially great because it allowed us to experiment with color and technique, which made the actual paintings much easier and more fun.

Karen is a fun person to take the painting class with. Her blend of  professionalism & personality make this class entertaining. She has upgraded her tech to better teach and it works well.
