Three words to describe me: relatable, fun-loving, and optimistic. I'm a current full-time student at DePaul, for which my academic passions are English, Spanish, and biology. My vocation, however, is music.
If I was a rose bush, my thorns would be my rather underdeveloped time management skills (although I am working on this, and in the meanwhile I make absolutely sure that every second my students pay for will be provided in full). My roses would be that I not infrequently go a bit over the marked lesson time because of my excitement at helping students learn. If you have a question that I can't immediately answer, I will pull out the stops to research the answer and get back to you. Sharing my curiosity and ardor for the lesson subject with you in the process provides the turgor that keeps my plant growing.
I have known Kalila virtually her entire life. Our families were heavily involved in scouting for a number of years and spent many weekends camping together and participating in other scouting activities and service projects. Kalila was often present, initially as a little kid running around having fun and later as an active participant. She was always willing to lend a hand. One of my fondest memories is of her performing with our "scout band" each December at the local Sunrise Retirement home. Everyone enjoyed seeing her perform with a group of Boy Scouts. When she was old enough she joined Scouting's venture program and has been active as a participant and leader throughout high school.
She and our youngest son have been in various bands together since the 4th grade. I've had many opportunities to see her perform and, as a musician myself for over 40 years, I can attest to the fact that she is a fabulous flautist. Her solo performances with the high school band have never failed to impress the entire audience.
I've had the pleasure to watch her grow from a child to a fine young woman. In addition to being an outstanding student, she is courteous, never failing to stop and chat when she sees me, considerate, patient and a great role model. I would highly recommend her for any teaching position, particularly one in music, an area in which she excels.
