Improve your chemistry: friendly teacher working on a PhD in Chemical Engineering
I am currently a second year PhD student and research adjunct in Chemical Engineering at The City College of New York. I have 4 years of experience as a teaching assistant, 2 years of which overlapped with experience as a private tutor. While in high school, I was enrolled in advanced placement courses, all of which remain virtually the same in content except for the offerings of Physics I completed in 2016. As an instructor, I bring a creative, patient, and interdisciplinary attitude to the table. In addition to being highly skilled in the areas of math, science, coding, and engineering, I am also happy to mentor students through the college admissions process (both undergraduate and graduate) by providing help with personal statements, standardized exam preparation, and interview skills.
About Kaitlyn L.

I am Chemical Engineering PhD student and research adjunct at The City College of New York where I investigate the chemistry underpinning strategies for mitigating smog-causing emissions. While completing my undergraduate degree, I helped write the online learning module for Organic Chemistry for Engineers, was an assistant instructor for the Computer Aided Chemical Engineering and Principles of Chemical Engineering courses, and offered private tutoring sessions. I have a true passion for teaching, and I believe that we're limited only by the time we invest in our studies. This is why I decided to pursue a career as a Chemical Engineering professor; because I felt an attitude of patience and thoughtfulness was missing in the circles of many STEM academics, and I do not feel STEM needs to be communicated exclusively in the esoteric, inaccessible means by which it often is. If you or a student you know are struggling to balance chemical equations, integrate functions, or solve for the velocity of a falling point mass, not only am I happy to help, but I am hopeful that we can overcome your challenges as painlessly as possible.

Teaching Assistant and Research Adjunct
Aug 2020 - Present
The City College of New York Dept. of Chemical Engineering
Since beginning my PhD at CCNY, I am now three semesters into my thesis research and am serving my first semester as a graduate teaching assistant for the Senior Capstone course in Chemical Engineering Design.
Teaching Assistant
Jan 2019 - Dec 2019
Auburn University Dept. of Chemical Engineering
While employed at Auburn during my undergraduate degree, I assisted the instructor of Computer-Aided Chemical Engineering for two semesters and the instructor of Principles of Chemical Engineering for one. I led recitations for both courses, hosted office hours, and wrote study materials (practice exams, study sheets, etc.). The Computer-Aided course focused on iterative solutions and statistical methods for solving problems related to science and engineering using MATLAB. The Principles course introduced students to unit conversions and mass and energy balance problems.

Auburn University Online Services
While studying at Auburn University, I was contracted to debug the online offering of the Organic Chemistry I refresher course intended for chemical engineering students who took time off from chemistry between their completion of Organic I and II. My role involved writing practice questions for the online platform and designing appropriate feedback for a variety of responses.
