Winner of The 2015 American Prize in Voice - Chicago Musical Theater Award, American tenor Justin John Moniz, has earned great acclaim for his “comic chops and huge voice”. Lauded by the South Florida Classical Review as a "superb high tenor" and a "vocal standout", his "refined" work has also been praised by the Miami Herald and Cape Cod Times. His unique style and versatility has afforded him an active career in concert, opera and musical theatre.

Mr. Moniz’s students have been praised by the Miami Herald for their ability to bring “a veteran performer’s assurance and personality” to the stage. Many have gone onto perform on Broadway, National Tours, and regionally, with companies including the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, the Actors' Playhouse, Stagedoor Manor, the Area Stage Company, and Orchestra Miami, where one student made his professional debut in the title role of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Justin provides an outstanding and quality brand of instruction aswell as a comfortable and focused environment in which to learn, work collaboratively, and take risks when in a musical theatre workshop or lesson. When being vocally warmed up, Justin notices the quality of your voice for that day or time of day and uses different warm ups to accomadate your vocal needs. When working with Justin I am always discovering new things and pushing my limts with his unique mix of practicing material, learning new material, and then coorelating that material into discussions about the business aspect of musical theatre. Justin is not only a fantastic and highly recommeded teacher for me, but has become a mentor and role model to me of what a successful and prolific working actor should be.

I started taking lessons with justin in 2012. At the time I had never taken any vocal training (I was 21), and Justin helped me tremendously in learning how to use my voice. He instilled a great respect for the fundamentals in me, and has always been a generous and helpful presence. I stringly recommend him to anyone looking for a strong and knowledgable instructor.

Justin has been doing private voice and piano lessons with my children for over 3 years. He is FABULOUS. He has just the right tone with my children (age 8-10)- serious about the music but fun and engaging at the same time. He is reliable, prepared, talented, and takes so much interest in my children's progress. We are so thrilled that he has such a fantastic opportunity in Tallahassee but are very sad to lose him from Miami.

Justin is an outstanding teacher! Taking lessons with him has changed my life. I have been studying with him for about 2 months and my voice has improved so much already. I am a different singer because of him. Since Justin is an active performer, he knows what it takes to be in the business right now. He has helped me so much with my audition package and deciding where I should audition this season. In addition, his knowledge of foreign languages is amazing and if there is a technical problem in your singing, he is wonderful at addressing it and telling you what you need to do to fix it. Words cannot even begin to describe how amazing Justin is not only as a teacher, but as a person and mentor. My lessons are the highlight of my week and Justin goes above and beyond. Justin is not only there for me as my teacher, but cares about me as a person. I would not be where I am right now, if it was not for him. Deciding to take lessons with Justin was the best decision that I could have made.

I will be attending the University of Utah this coming fall in the Musical Theatre BFA program, and I would never be able to say that if it weren't for Justin Moniz. He helped me through the entire college audition/selection process in more ways than just voice. I had never gone through the process before (obviously), and I was SO appreciative of Justin's professional help. I would have had no idea how to even begin the process without him. He was (and still is) always more than willing to go the extra mile, including writing multiple wonderful letters of recommendation for me. As far as vocal coaching, Justin is excellent. I especially appreciate the way he makes complicated vocal skills simple and easy. Artists are often unorganized, but Justin absolutely is not. He is completely "on top of things," and always makes time for me. I never feel like I bother him by asking for lessons, which has happened with other instructors of mine in the past. Perhaps most importantly, I know that Justin truly cares about me as a person. I will never be able to repay him for all the ways he has helped me and continues to support and encourage me in all areas of my life.

A true professional.
Justin is a master of voice and with in 10 minutes of my lesson he was able to give me tools that have extended my abilities, while being able to communicate those ideas in a clear and relatable manner. As an actor I have taken lessons in Tallahassee, Miami, Chicago and even New York and Justin is nothing more than professional. Fun, engaging, and has a love and care for his students that is surpassed by none. It's a true pleasure to grow from this amazing teacher.

Great experience and instructor

Justin is a very knowledgeable instructor who takes his time to progress a student at the right pace. His expertise and musical background are highly beneficial for a student and helpful in many different aspects. (Music theory, performance, song writing)
He is as good a vocalist, as he is pianist, as he is creative. All of these qualities combined with his patience, understanding and love for music, make him a recommended instructor to learn and grow from.

Justin integrates a keen understanding of music theory, well-honed musicalskills, and appreciation of student needs into his teaching. He is alwaysupbeat, encouraging, and understanding. He is punctual for lessons andpaces the lessons well. As a vocal coach he brings in the ability to playthe piano which is a great complement to the lessons. Overall, I highlyrecommend him.
