This was my first teaching job and it happened to take place in Mexico. I taught private and group classes, online and in person. My students ranged in level from Beginner to Advanced.

ESL Instructor

While teaching at NYLC, I gained experience teaching to adults from a variety of levels. I taught two group classes Monday through Thursday, as well as a four hour weekly workshop on Fridays. In this role, I benefited from planning my own lessons, which ranged in topic from grammar points to conversation topics. The goal of these lessons was always maximum student speaking time.

Spanish

I like to use a variety of material when teaching ESL. I first like to target student's interests and then build from there. Many of my lessons are built around videos and discussion questions, but can also be related to articles and other reading material. I find that videos with questions/vocabulary related to the material has been an effective and enjoyable way for my students to stay motivated while learning. Another one of my favorite tactics is bringing up vocabulary from previous lessons. Every moment is crucial, so let's get started!

Hello, and welcome to another step on your ESL journey. My name is Jumaane, and I look forward to us working together. I received my Bachelor of Arts from UNC Greensboro in May 2014, and my CELTA certification in April 2015. As an ESL Instructor, I have taught both abroad and in my native USA. I have taught a variety of levels and students from around the world. As an Instructor with NYLC, I designed my own daily lesson plans for groups, as well as a weekly conversation workshop. Teaching abroad I taught mostly private lessons that were structured around students interests and specific grammar needs. Lessons with me are fun, but also effective, and it's important to me that they always build upon one another.
