I have performed in orchestras all over the world. I started in the UK and worked with most of UK's major Symphony, Chamber and Opera orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra (with frequent performances at the world famous Promenade Concerts in the Royal Albert Hall ) the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, The London Philharmonic, Opera North and Contrabassoon on Lord of the Rings Twin Towers DVD. I also spent 3 years in the Hong Kong Philharmonic and 10 years in the Ulster Orchestra. I have performed for numerous TV, Radio and CD recordings.
Having a teacher with so many years of orchestral experience was a real eye opener. One of the main shocks was trying his reeds - after that there was no turning back and I drastically changed my reed style giving me the freedom to play quietly and loudly without strain and to play for much longer without my lip going. Also technical passages that I had been struggling with were gone over where Julian pointed out that really really slow practice was what was needed. I had been too impatient to cut things back that much - it works like magic if you do the ground work! I found that the things we went over have stuck with me and I use them every day. Highly recommended.+ Read More
Mr. Julian Partridge was my bassoon teacher while he was working in HK Philharmonic Orchestra. I studied with him from 1997-1998, and I was Hong Kong Academic Performing Arts student in Professional Dipolma degree with bassoon performing.
Julian was a great teacher and as a good friend, I had a great time during his guiding. I am highly recommend Mr. Julian Partridge a best instructor not only the bassoon and also the music knowledge.
