About Julian M.
I have been studying voice for over ten years, and have been teaching voice professionally since 2015, including two years teaching at the university level. My teaching focuses on helping you to use your voice in the most optimal way, so you can make the best sounds possible!
On the stage, I have performed over two dozen roles spanning opera, musical theatre, and “straight” theatre. I have also performed as a soloist in oratorio and with choral ensembles. You can find my bio below!
Originally from Arlington, Virginia, bass-baritone Julian Michael Morris recently made a debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, as The Speaker in “Die Zauberflöte”. He also traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel, where he performed the role of Pandolfe in “Cendrillon” with Summer Opera Tel Aviv. Morris has recently been seen on the stage of the Musical Arts Center at The Jacobs School of Music, as Kobun Otogawa in “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs”, Raimondo in “Lucia di Lammermoor”, and as the bass soloist in Krzysztof Penderecki's “St. Luke Passion” with the Indiana University Oratorio Chorus and Philharmonic Orchestra. Previous seasons have seen Morris in several roles with Indiana University Opera Theatre, including Alvaro in ”Florencia en el Amazonas”, Hobson in ”Peter Grimes”, and Pistola in ”Falstaff”, and as Don Magnifico in ”La Cenerentola” with the Bay View Music Festival. Concert appearances from previous seasons include a performance as the bass soloist in J.S. Bach's “Sehet, welch eine Liebe” with the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project, and as the bass soloist in Haydn’s “Missa Sancti Nicolai” with Trinity Church, Bloomington, Ind. Morris has been the recipient of awards including a Joshi International Fellowship from the Georgina Joshi Foundation, and The Giorgio Tozzi Award, Bruce Hubbard Memorial Award, and two Artistic Excellence Fellowships, all from The Jacobs School of Music. Morris currently serves as associate instructor of voice at Indiana University, where he teaches privately and is also associate director of the undergraduate opera workshop. Morris has previously studied with Patricia Stiles, and currently studies voice with Wolfgang Brendel, and coaches with Gary Arvin and Kevin Murphy.
