Learn violin: positive & patient teacher with BM in violin performance

My goal with every student is to foster a love of music through a blend of challenge and adaptability. Mistakes are a natural part of learning and nothing to be afraid of -- they mean that you are pushing yourself to new heights! I adapt my curriculum to the individual student's goals. Typically, I balance the following: - Technique exercises to help you reach the next step in your playing (like Yost, Flesch, and Kreutzer) - Challenging repertoire to help you grow (like Suzuki books & student concertos) - "Fun" music -- although all music should be fun! (your favorite song or fiddle tune) That's just a guideline -- I am happy to adjust curriculum to help you become the violinist you want to be! I am dedicated to helping YOU achieve your goals, and no matter what, I always, *always* want to help you remember how beautiful and rewarding music is. I have taught violin for the last 7.5 years and currently perform as-needed with the Oxford Sinfonia. While earning my university degree in violin performance, I performed & recorded with two orchestras: one for traditional concert repertoire and the other for soundtrack music. I have also performed in small chamber settings since 2014 and have experience collaborating in other genres like pop, folk, fiddle, jazz, R&B, and funk. While studying abroad at the University of Oxford during fall 2021, I performed as a first violinist with the Oxford University Orchestra. All ages are welcome -- book a lesson today!

I hold a bachelor's degree in violin performance and have taught violin for the last 7.5 years. I currently perform in concerts with the Oxford Sinfonia. How I teach: I adapt my curriculum to the individual student's goals. A little more about my experience: While earning my degree, I performed & recorded with my university's two orchestras. One focused on traditional concert repertoire, such as Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, with frequent collaborations with the university's various choirs. The other focused on film- and game-soundtrack music such as Attack on Titan, Ratatouille, and a Westside Story medley. While studying abroad at the University of Oxford during fall 2021, I performed as a first violinist with the Oxford University Orchestra. I have performed in chamber music from 2014 to 2022 with every number of members from two to six. I have also enjoyed performing in various unique concerts such as performing in a televised concert of “Christmas in Arabic," collaborating on recordings of choral and funk arrangements, performing in my university's opera production of Puccini's Suor Angelica, and switching between singing and playing violin in a small jazz ensemble.

Rescheduled my classes to different days to fit her own schedule without asking for my input.

Julia has been teaching my daughters for the last 7 years. She exhibits patience, flexibility, kindness, and a love for her craft. A couple of my girls have some learning disabilities and she has adapted her teaching style to suit their learning needs and they have progressed against all odds before my eyes. My daughters say that Julia is the best teacher they have ever had (taking into consideration other teachers, coaches, etc) because of how she teaches. She helps them feel validated when things are difficult and challenges them just the right amount. She comes along side them and talks them through gently discovering how they can improve. She encourages organization and responsibility in my girls. And she has integrity and respect. I love her as their music teacher because of her talent in music and her ability to teach, but also because she is such a positive role model for them. I highly recommend Julia to anyone looking for violin instruction.

Julia is definitely patient, encouraging, and knows her stuff! She is currently my 12 year old son's instructor and works so well with him. Thank you for being such a gem... he has already learned so much!
