Master the Guitar: Balance Technique & Enjoyment with a Versatile, Experienced Teacher

Note: I very strongly suggest sending a message before booking to make sure I can meet your needs in your lessons! Learning to play the guitar is about striking a balance between essential exercises and the engaging material that fuels your passion for playing. As a teacher, my focus lies in ensuring that my students avoid detrimental habits in their technique while incorporating enjoyable methods to hone their skills. Ultimately, I aim to guide you towards a repertoire that brings joy to your guitar journey. While I have a selection of preferred books tailored to students' interests and age, I am always open to customizing the lesson plan to meet your unique needs. Additionally, I supplement the chosen books with my own materials to cover vital topics like music theory and relevant music history. Together, we'll embark on a rewarding path to guitar mastery, blending technique and enjoyment to help you become the musician you've always aspired to be.
About Joshua A.

Hello! I'm Josh, a dedicated technology and music educator with a strong focus on Python programming and a diverse background in music. I'm excited to help you unlock your full potential in programming, music, or both! I earned my Master's in Music (specializing in composition and classical guitar) from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, while also nurturing my love for programming. Over the past few years, I've pivoted back to programming professionally, but my passion for music remains strong. With over two decades of experience in coding and music, I'm eager to share my knowledge and expertise with you! My unique background led to a fulfilling five-year journey teaching music technology courses at Vanderbilt University. There, I covered a wide range of topics, from classical music studies to programming synthesizers, and performed classical guitar works in faculty concerts. Since then, I've shifted my focus to private tutoring, where I can provide personalized, one-on-one instruction. As a tutor, I offer expert guidance in four key areas: Python programming, arrangement and composition, guitar (both classical and contemporary), and music theory. My Python expertise is rooted in video game development, where I find my true passion in coding, but I'm also familiar with the business and data science side of programming. My guitar and composition background spans various genres, including classical, rock, metal, and jazz. I can help you develop a strong foundation in music theory, enabling you to explore and understand the intricacies of your favorite songs. I take great joy in teaching students of all ages, whether it's in one or multiple subjects that I love. I firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore diverse skills and interests. Let me help you embark on your learning journey and discover your hidden talents! Looking forward to working with you soon!

Josh is hands down the best! I've taken lessons from several different teachers, but he took the time to get to know my level and what I needed to get to the next. He is kind and compassionate about his work and enjoys sharing his knowledge and gift with his students. I highly recommend him as a teacher. Can't wait to learn more!
