I have been playing music since I was 9 years old. I studied piano with Robin Kaplan, Mark Evans, Lee Shaw, and Dr. Gary Bush. In 2004 I completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Composition and Production from the Purchase Conservatory at Purchase College in West Chester, NY. Recently I completed a very successful tour as pianist for the United States Marine Corps Band, based in Cherry Point, NC. My performance experience includes jazz, R&B, reggae, classical, rock, funk, country, and DCI style marching band. I am very inspired by the vast world of music and I encourage my students to explore many genres of music in their studies. *** Lesson Details *** I approach music instruction with a very open mind. I am a pretty laid back teacher, despite my Marine Corps training. I find that students who enjoy what they are learning are much more likely to practice and succeed. From the first lesson I reinforce strong technique, practice habits and ear training within the context of students' interests. I also work to expand students' musical world with many take home listening. In the first 3-6 months students can expect to learn to read and write basic notes and rhythms, the origins of the instrument and the music written for it, and most importantly, students will learn to play some songs and build their repertoire. That, of course, is just the beginning of what is, hopefully, a life long fascination with music. *** Studio Equipment *** In my studio I have comfortable seating for parents, and upright piano, drumset, electric drumset, digital pianos, and computer with recording and playback capabilities. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide portable keyboards, laptop computer, and recording equipment. I expect piano students to have their own piano or keyboard and my drum students to have, at least a snare drum and/or practice pad.
