Josh is an exuberant yet down-to-earth teacher. He utilizes storytelling, drawing, and other immersive techniques to introduce others to his native language of English. Having learned a second language in his late teens, he has the perspective of being a complete beginner to a language and a culture (a journey which has completely changed the trajectory of his life!) This ends up making students feel comfortable, curious, and open to learning.

Josh has taught Spanish and English as second languages to children, teenagers, and adults over the past three years. He graduated from Christopher Newport in 2015 with a BA in Spanish and Linguistics. He has taken training in the TPRS (Teaching Proficiency using Reading and Storytelling) method with the creator of the method, Blaine Ray.

Josh understands that a language is a key; it's a key to a new culture, to a new way of seeing the world, to new relationships, to personal growth, to a career. As such, he offers such a key with gratitude and excitement.

About Joshua B.

Hello, hello!

Do you see that picture of me? That photo was taken by my wife as we were sitting down to eat tacos in Mexico, her home country. Of all the events in my life that led me there, learning a second language was easily the most important.
That's why I love to teach language: every language is a key and it opens up doors and possibilities. Language is a powerful thing!

I use storytelling, drawing, acting, and all sorts of fun methods to guide my students into learning my native language of English. I understand what it's like to be completely new to a language and the culture it represents and I create a space that fosters curiosity, ease, and openness.

My path in language has taken me to Christopher Newport where I graduated in 2015 with a BA in Spanish and Linguistics. It's taken the to train with Blaine Ray, the creator the TPRS method in 2017. And it's taken me into all sorts of different classrooms over the years, as a teacher, a student, and yes, an eater of tacos.
