Want to play piano piano or learn to compose a song? I've been teaching piano, music theory, and bassoon lessons for more than a decade. All ages and abilities welcome. In lessons we'll focus on the repertoire that interests you most, working to achieve your musical goals. About me: I just finished a degree at Juilliard studying very old music, but I love all kinds of new music from Pop to Jazz to R&B. Before moving to NYC I lived in Minneapolis where I played bassoon in an orchestra and taught music at a college.
About Joseph J.

Hi I'm Joe! I love being a musician. I love performing (especially as a bassoonist), flying around the county, and occasionally the globe, to play concerts and make recordings. And I also love teaching. I've been teaching piano, bassoon and music theory for more than 15 years, both privately and in universities, to students ranging from young children, to conservatory students, to gigging musicians expanding their skills. All ages and abilities are welcome. I have degrees in music form The Juilliard School, the University of Minnesota, and Utah State University. I offer lessons in piano and bassoon in person around NYC. I also teach music theory / composition lessons, as well as historical performance practice (baroque bassoon/ dulcian) both in person, and online from anywhere in the world. As a teacher I believe participation invites learning, and that we learn best when we're excited about what we're learning. So I tailor lessons to the interests of each student, whether that's video game music, or lo-fi, or improvised baroque trills. I help students set goals for practice and study that build their skills, knowledge and musicality over time. My biggest goal is to help my students confidently express themselves and their ideas through music. So in addition to technical ability, and learning established repertoire, I encourage writing, and improvising and I've developed methods and tools which I hope make this creative side of music both approachable, and fun.
