The greatest joy in teaching a musical instrument is seeing the student learn, develop and eventually evolve into a proficient musician. Each lesson that I teach focuses on theory and harmony, and also includes songs that the student wants to learn. Incorporating ear training, sight reading, scales, chords and improvisation will also be part of the music curriculum. I vow to make learning the piano or keyboard a fun and educational experience!

About Joseph G.

I began studying the piano at the age of seven and have taken lessons for fifteen years. My teachers Lillian Dickstein and Dr. Richard Vallis were both Juilliard graduates. In addition, I studied jazz improvisation, arranging, and composition with Angelo Mussolino. I also have worked as a Director of Music for the Catholic Church for the past twenty six years. In that position, I play the pipe organ, acoustic piano and keyboard for masses, funerals, weddings, baptisms and special feasts masses. Another important aspect of this position is my training and development of choirs for general and multilingual masses.
As a performing musician, I formed the musical band “Millenium” and have played for many private wedding and corporate parties throughout the New York area. I have experience playing keyboards and synthesizers and served as the band arranger for the musical pieces we performed. In 1982 I have performed a two hour classical concert at the Brooklyn Conservatory of music in Flushing Queens. Some of the notable classical pieces I performed at the concert were Chopin Etude in C# minor, Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Due to my music education and past experience, I can teach classical, pop, and jazz improvisation to students on all levels.
