I am a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music & Jazz school with over 20 years of professional experience. I have toured internationally and have played in many diverse musical arenas. The past 16 years of my music career have been spent in the Bay area playing professionally and teaching privately.
My specialties are in jazz improvisation and music theory. My students range in age from 4 to 60, most being between the ages of 9 and 16. Many of my students attend the Urban School and School of the Arts here in San Francisco. Most of my students are at the top of their class in band and music theory studies and have made the San Francisco All-City Orchestra.
Specific credentials and references are available upon request. All levels welcome, serious students only.
Livin' on a train and playin' in the Circus!
Played many Broadway shows and Swing Dance sets here during summers.
My son got his first saxophone lessons and loved it. He is very excited to learn with Joseph!
Very friendly, pragmatic, and musical. Accurately assesses where I am and teaches accordingly.
Joseph was quick to identify my strengths and where I could use a bit of work to tailor a plan to get my sax chops back. He's also teaching me music theory which is very clear and easy to understand.
Joe is super nice teacher for me! Very patient and helpful for improving my skill.
Joseph is a great instructor. He is teaching me exactly what I want to learn and is helping me set good goals for the future.
Joe is great! He really engaged me and I am excited to do my homework and go for my next lesson. Joe made music theory so much fun and super understandable. I can't wait to learn more!

Excellent. Joe is the man. Perfect for any skill level. After my first lesson, I found myself significantly more comfortable playing the sax. Highly recommend taking lessons with Joe.
Took a few minutes but quickly started playing the scale. I have never played a horn or woodwind instrument and was quite surprised at how quickly Joe got me playing. Very personal and easy to work with. NO worries here.
I had a blast with Joe!
Joseph is a highly dedicated and responsible teacher, who is pretty good at motivating children. Augustine loves Joseph's lessons and looks forward to it every week.
My 11-year-old daughter took lessons from Joe last year. She had never had a lesson before, and didn't even know how to read music. Joe is so patient and friendly, and let me stay through the first lesson to make sure she wasn't too nervous. We opted to go to him because first of all, it's cheaper, and second of all, I don't think my neighbors are as understanding about the noise as his are!
He also has a piano, which came in handy! My daughter started to look forward to it every week, and she progressed faster than we thought. Highly recommend!
