Jordi Lara is a multi-instrumentalist educator, session musician, and freelance performer in the Atlanta/Athens, Georgia area. He received his Bachelors Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Georgia in 2021 as well as a minor in Jazz Studies (electric/upright bass). During his time at UGA, Jordi furthered his classical studies on the cello under the instruction of Dr. David Starkweather while developing his technique and jazz idiom on both electric and upright bass under the guidance of Professor David D’Angelo and Dr. James Weidman of the UGA Jazz Department. Outside of academia, Jordi has explored a wide range of non-classical and contemporary styles on both cello and bass, ranging from bluegrass and folk music to rock and pop. His work in these styles includes freelance live performances, studio performances and arrangements, and composing and performing original music with his Athens-based band Canary Affair. As a private instructor, Jordi believes in implementing a strong technical foundation as well as productive practice habits and routines (ear training and theory, time management, release of tension, etc.). Each lesson and the materials or methods used are tailored to the student’s needs and goals, with attention to detail and healthy performance habits to ensure longevity of music making. Beyond pushing his students to achieve their personal musical goals, Jordi encourages them to be students of music as a whole and not be limited by the traditional roles of their respective instruments. He believes in reaffirming that at the heart of this exchange of information and techniques is individual growth and expression through music. . . . I recommend weekly lessons to any and all beginner students and try to always be flexible and available to my students’ needs and schedules. I encourage a respectful experience between my students and myself while maintaining a professional and positive student-teacher relationship. I really enjoy teaching and learning from my students as much as they learn from me - I hope to see you in the classroom! **Ofrezco clases en español!** **Available for students of all ages / learning capabilities**

Amazing teacher. Nice, understanding, and very helpful. I had already been playing the cello for a little while and he is a much better teacher than the one I had before. I would highly recommend to anyone from beginner to advanced.
I have always wanted to play the cello but never had any musical experience. I was hesitant doing online lessons at first but that worry quickly ran away when I had my first online lesson with Jordi. Jordi was so welcoming and it made me excited for the next lesson to come! He is extremely patient and encouraging whenever I would mess up or get a bit nervous playing which helps my anxiety. I always learn something new from him every time we meet and he creates a clear plan on what to work on for my next lesson. He is an understanding teacher and tailors to your experience level and the kind of music genre you like to play. He is also very flexible with his schedule. I'm a senior in high school so I have many things on my plate but he's willing to make time fit mine and his schedule. I'm very thankful to have him as my cello teacher. If you're researching and contemplating which teacher you should choose, picking Jordi is the smartest choice! :)
My daughter loves her cello lessons and has made amazing progress. Jordi is both professional and relaxed which is a great combination.
