I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work around the world as a professional singer. As a classical singer, I've performed as a soloist in such venues as the Kennedy Center, Cincinnati€™s Music Hall, and Boston€™s Shubert Theater. As a recitalist, I've toured around the country, most recently giving concerts in Mobile, Alabama and Washington, DC I am currently finishing a Performance Studies Certificate from Boston Conservatory, where I received my Masters in Voice this spring. I did my bachelors at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I understand what it takes to be a professional singer in the world today, and can help you work toward that goal. Many classical voice teachers have a hard time teaching non-classical students. I've found that I've been able to use my classical training to perform successfully in a lot of non-classical styles. I'm the co-founder of Kansas City's Crossroads Theatre Company, where I had the opportunity to perform a lot of iconic musical theater roles and was able to direct two of our season opening shows. I have also performed regularly in jazz clubs and coffee houses throughout Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Kansas City as a pianist/singer and as part of the Cincinnati based band Wake. I'm also currently one half of the popular country blues duo "Dog-patch Ramblers." As a teacher, I've worked with performers of different ages and experience levels to achieve their singing goals in both classical and popular styles. I will be teaching voice and diction classes for Boston Conservatory's upcoming High School Vocal-Choral Intensive. While attending Boston Conservatory, I was a graduate assistant for undergraduate music history, where I taught weekly classes and tutored students privately. I've also worked with local high school choirs as a clinician and voice coach. *** Lesson Details *** Learning to sing is a very exciting and personally revealing process. Everyone may not have the natural material to become a professional headliner, but everyone can learn to make a free beautiful sound that others will want to hear. I am committed to helping students discover and develop that free, individual sound, and to giving them the tools to use it in whatever style they desire. The foundations of good singing in every style, from classical to rock, remain the same. I help students work on their breathing, body alignment, development of tone, and reduction of tension. In lessons, I apply these technique fundamentals to whatever style of music the student is interested in. For students interested in a more classical foundation, I am comfortable working on pieces in English, Italian, German, French, Russian, and Czech. For students who prefer to study musical theater, rock, or pop, I am familiar with that repertoire, and happy to work only in English. Just like playing a sport or learning a new language, the speed of a student's progress depends largely on that student's practice. If a student keeps an open mind and follows the practice plan we agree on during lessons, that student will progress very quickly. Once a student begins to see how much better they can become by applying these techniques, most students respond by putting in the necessary work. I love singing and the process of learning how to sing. I'm always interested in working with new students who share this love. *** Studio Equipment *** A downtown facility with off-street parking and studio space with a grand piano and space to move. *** Travel Equipment *** I am on bike and public transportation, so I will provide myself and can bring some music. Lessons are easier with a piano or other electric keyboard, but I can successfully work without a keyboard. *** Specialties *** I have two degrees in classical singing, and specialize in helping students find and free their natural voice. In addition to opera, I co-founded Crossroads Theatre Company in Kansas City, MO, and have a lot of experience performing and teaching musical theater. As a member of several bands, I can also help give students the techniques they need to succeed in pop/rock singing.
