    About Jonathan C.

I'm Jonathan, and I've been a guitarist for about eight years now. Primarily, I play Fingerstyle and Flamenco guitar, but I've also played a lot of Rock and Metal guitar, especially when I started out. I've performed in front of audiences from small crowds up to hundreds at one point, played for a group of Flamenco dancers, and busked on the street, and I've had such a great time doing it all. Though I am a musician at heart, I graduated recently with a Bachelor's in Physics, my research thesis focusing on Guitars, Overtones, and the Physics of Music. Currently, my main work is in tutoring and science communication, but I love guitar and have had a great time teaching it in the past. I've taught a variety of ages and a variety of styles, from a student looking to learn Classical and Flamenco techniques to one who just wanted to play Hozier covers. My style of teaching guitar emphasizes two ideas: your ear should be one of your primary ways to learn music, and you should be having fun. The first because there will definitely be times when you can't find tabs or sheet music for what you want to play, especially if you like fingerstyle guitar, and also because developing your ear will allow you to really understand more about the music and help give you a connection to it. The second simply because if you're not enjoying it, why are you doing it? Not to mention it helps reduce injury and frustration, both of which will only hold you back. Most of what I'm doing currently involves learning more about playing different Flamenco Palos, transcribing some anime soundtracks (seems I'm on a Miyazaki kick at the moment), making Flamenco guitar versions of Kpop songs, and just growing and improving in the art of guitar. Feel free to reach out also if any of this seems interesting to you! I'd love to help you out on your journey with the guitar, so let me know and we can talk about how I can best help you learn!
