About Jon K.

Teaching guitar professionally, crafting live sound for the famous (and not-so-famous), and recording in my own studio have truly been some of the best experiences of my life. Let me open that door for you too. I studied Audio Engineering in Nashville and played guitar in too many bars in the Mid-west. Headed out to Portland where I have been teaching and recording, learning and practicing, reading up and getting down to it musically. With a wealth of knowledge and the chops to back it up I can help you get started, refine the abilities you already have, or find the medium of guitar you want to explore. *** Lesson Details *** First off, expect me to get to know you and what you want to learn. The guitar is such a fantastic instrument. You can learn some simple chords to back your own voice or how to rip up and down the neck faster then what is considered safe these days. Would you like to play some nice classical pieces on a Sunday afternoon? Do sultry sounding slide licks yearn to leap from your hands? Are you getting ready to play live? No problem! I can teach you these things! We can set up a couple of microphones and get you ready for the public, practice some Bach, or learn how to strum like Jack Johnson. My goal is not only for you to enjoy the guitar, but for you to enjoy playing how you want to play. You decide the direction you want to take, I will just be there as a guide. *** Studio Equipment *** The home studio is an apt with a private entrance with a separate music studio room devoted to music. The room includes 7 guitars, amps, mixing board, and seating is available. *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide paperwork and my own instrument, stand, and tuner for myself. The student will be expected to provide a tune-able instrument. *** Specialties *** I specialize in improvisation and slide guitar, but can hold my own in classical and finger picking styles also.
