My life long passions have been for guitar, music, and business. I received my very first guitar at the age of 12 years old and have been studying, playing, and improvising ever since with over 28 years of experience. I have had the honor to train under some of the finest Guitarists in the Chicagoland area: Dave Uhrich, Eric Mantel, Toshi Iseda, and Tom Hess.
I have performed as lead guitarist on worship teams for over 15 years, currently at Kenosha Bible Church. As the lead guitarist of Aural Groove, I recorded under industry pro Michael Charles of Moonlight Studios. As lead singer and guitarist of Manna (an acoustic duo) I recorded under Rex Carroll of Whitecross.
I teach and train in a method I have coined "8 Cycle Guitar". This approach alternates areas of focus each week; like a fitness program. By routinely rotating through the 8 cycles of guitar training, the student gains the skill needed to master the instrument quickly and effectively.
My Promise to you, simply put, "You Will Learn to Play the Guitar, period." I will be your own personal Guitar Coach. Look through the pics in my profile. 90% or more of those students started out as absolute beginners. I will help to keep things moving along, keep you motivated, keep you inspired, and keep the lessons fun.
What do I want in return: committed students, students who show up to their lessons, students who will practice a half hour per day or more, 5 to 7 days per week. Students who do not use the words "I can't," but instead use the words "How can I? Please show me."
I am here to teach, train, coach, and mentor you to the best of my ability. If you do the things I request you to do in and outside of your lessons...I personally guarantee you will learn to play the guitar and impress all your friends and family.
Let's start this journey together. You won't regret your decision.

Jon has been a great teacher and outstanding at encouraging my daughter. She has continued with guitar as a result and has continued to impress us with her skill and talent.
My daughter had a fun time learning guitar from Mr. Kapity. It was her first time having lessons. She wasn't sure what to expect at first. Mr. Kapity made her feel comfortable right from the start. He was willing to take his time with her to insure she understood each lesson. He would review material she struggled with, without making it a stressful experience. His incentive program helped her practice at home without it feeling like a chore. As a parent, I took joy in watching her progress and improve with each lesson. I would definitely recommend Mr. Kapity for anyone wishing to, not only learn to play guitar, but have fun in the process.+ Read More
Jon has been giving my son guitar lessons for about 4 1/2 years. My son didn't even know what a chord was when he started with Jon and now he is learning to write his own songs and he plays in our church band. Jon is great at encouraging while keeping my son accountable if he doesn't practice enough. My son LOVES playing the guitar and looks forward to his lessons with Jon.+ Read More

I have taken lessons from Jon for around 3 years and still enjoy taking lessons. He is very good at balancing all of the fun and not as fun things to learn so you never get bored. I even get to pick a song that I like on the radio or wherever to learn. He values your opinion; he always makes sure that you know what you just learned and will not move on until all your questions are asked. I would definitely recommend Jon to anyone looking for lessons.+ Read More
I don't think I can put it any better than anyone else on here..It's been said before, and I agree , Jon is the best. My daughter's last teacher missed lessons all the time, and didn't really inspire her to go further..Jon is a great motivator, and very patient with my daughter who has ADD. The little get togethers he does a few times a year are nice, and welcomed. Anyone looking to go with Jon will NOT ever be disappointed!+ Read More
I've met a few teachers in my experiences playing bass, and I can easily say that I've never met a man more dedicated than Jon. From the first day, you can tell that Jon honestly cares about his students, and takes great joy in seeing them succeed. After less than a year of lessons with him, I've preformed in front of crowds, and never doubted myself in doing so. More than just a teacher, Jon is a friend to his students. Through him, I've met other, great students, and made many friends. He makes active attempts to have students meet, in hopes that they get along, and play together. Jon also goes the extra mile to teach his students, asking for popular guitarists and bassists to join his students, so that we can learn from professionals. From the first lesson, you can tell that Jon wants to share his love of music, and he's the best teacher I've ever come across.+ Read More
At age 45 I have been trying to learn the guitar off and on since I was 9 with no true success. that being said I found Jon and can honestly say that every time I leave lessons I feel that this is finally the time I will learn. Jon is extremely patient and informative willing to answer all questions and take the time to help you master not only the instrument but also the theory and practical application. Its more than just scales and chords its confidence and skill. Honesty and Commitment are the 2 best words to define Jon. I would recommend Jon Kapity
Guitar academy to any wanting to learn how to play.
Jon Kapity is very organized and is a great teacher to learn from. He has taught me a lot over the years I have taken with him. He has shown how to play different guitars and has helped me from the beginning. I will always recommend Jon for anyone who is willing to learn from beginner to intermediate and to advance.+ Read More
Jon Kapity has that rare mix of knowledge, talent, and experience that makes learning guitar educational, fun, and effective. I have seen first hand the success his method and style of education brings. Jon uses his skills of not only musicianship, but also pedagogy to build individualized differentiated lessons that are age and current skill appropriate yet challenging enough to push the student towards their goals. Jon is very adept a changing methods based on age, current abilities, and past knowledge levels.
Jon teaches his lessons out of a dedicated music studio attached to his home. This studio is professional in appearance and large enough for group practices, yet private enough to have great sound for an individual player. The parking lot just yards from the private dedicated entrance is easy accessible and in a safe neighborhood.
With all the options available for guitar lessons Jon Kapity is a solid choice. I have had the privilege of learning from him for the past 6 months and look forward to our continued relationship and to bringing my young son when he is older.
