Parents, students, I can help with that math problem!

I've helped dozens of students overcome every sort of math roadblock. All too often, a confusing lesson has gone unresolved, leading to heaps of bewilderment and frustration. Think of it like a tangle in a rope that only gets more knotted as you struggled to unravel it. Relax. I've got this.

We go back to the original knot, unravel it together, then coil everything back up cleanly. Sometimes it takes a few sessions, more often longer.

I tailor every session to each student, using methods they can relate to. Your student likes video games? Many have a built in key to understanding negative numbers. Simple, fun card games are my go-to choice for fractions and other math monsters.

I provide plenty of patience, clear, consistent guidelines, and positive coaching. No one needs to struggle in math. As long as your student wants to learn, you will see improvement with my help!

March 1999

I have taught professionally for 18 years, nine as a tutor. What began as undergraduate work-study bloomed into part time private tutoring independently, with great success. From elementary arithmetic to trigonometry, I've helped many an overwhelmed student raise their GPA!

I hold a BA with honors from CSUSB, with an English concentration. I was personally requested by my linguistics teacher for peer tutoring. My one-on-one experience has been predominantly in math and English, though I am open to other subjects because...

My teaching has taken me from museum galleries to working farms, and mountain trails to public schools. Whether I hold feldspar by a stream, a paint brush in a school room, or a salamander in an animal gallery, I see people learning best when they smile as they go. I make it a point to see that both occur. My sessions are always a safe, supportive environment in which mistakes are an essential, acceptable part of learning.

I learn because I love to, I teach because I'm good at it, and I tutor because it creates the greatest opportunity for success. The true payoff for me is helping my students realize they can achieve what they didn't think they could. I love that!

Jon is cery knowledgeable and comminicated well with us as far as what was going on during our son’s lessons with him. We needed a tutor who could be very patient with our son and identify where he was having trouble. Jon exceeded our expectations and is very friendly. Thank you, Jon!

My daughter always had a great deal of trouble with math at all levels - arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry. Jon tutored my daughter for several years, in our home, in Arithmetic, Algebra I and II, and Geometry. He definitely shares responsibility for her graduation from Beaumont High School with a class rank of 7th out of about 575 fellow students. Jon is very flexible in his teaching, and excels at figuring out what aspect of math is causing confusion for the student. He is very patient, and is able to rephrase and express concepts in different ways to get the point across. Fantastic tutor!

I had the pleasure of being tutored by Jon for many years, and with his help I was able to excel in school. Jon is an excellent tutor who is extremely patient and willing to explain things as many times as it takes to understand the concept. He knows how to make learning fun and teaches concepts using the students interests. I highly recommend Jon to anyone who needs any sort of help in school.

I met John about 8 years ago. I decided to home school my son due to the problems his school was having. I had John Harmon tutor my son for about 2 years twice a week in English and Math. He was a excellent teacher for him. He made learning fun and not so boring. My son learned more through him than he did at any school. I would truly recommend him.

I worked with Jon Harmon in a museum education department (I am now director of education at a different museum) and I have observed him at other education jobs also. Jon brings a passion and enthusiasm to his work that inspires and encourages students. He brings sometimes dry subject matter to life, with humor and with a deep understanding of the content. I can highly recommend him.

Jon is a fantastic tutor. He helped my brother and I in various subjects while in middle school and high school. His knowledge base is vast, and his personality can be best described as simply awesome. This combination allows Jon to tutor in a manner that conveys all the important principles and concepts of a subject, into an easy to understand curriculum. Jon can and will go above and beyond the definition of a tutor. He was always readily available. As stated initially Jon is a fantastic tutor that would be an invaluable asset to a student struggling in his/her academics, as well as a parent that would like to asit their child in their academic success!
