I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a student and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.
*** Lesson Details ***
I cater my lesson to the individual. I like for students to have a structured practice routine and working knowledge of music and their instrument, but it has to be fun. I have students who learn Classical, rock, and Jazz. Each lesson is different. Some people just want to be able to play their favorite songs by a camp fire, and others want to go on to perform at Carnegie Hall. I enjoy teaching both lessons and put forth the same enthusiasm for each one. You get out of the guitar or bass what you put into it in terms of learning and practicing. The level of achievement is up to you, I will help guide you to meet your goals regardless of how large or small they are.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Spare music room: guitars, amps, bass; computer with recording software, ProTools seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the equipment necessary. I would like the student to have an instrument, but if not I can provide one for the lesson.
*** Specialties ***
I'm really pretty versatile. Over 18 years of teaching anywhere from 80 to 100 students a week will do that.

Jon is an awesome teacher! He is great at explaining things and has helped me learn so much already, all while learning some awesome songs

Jon is an awesome instructor. I was a beginner at age 50, and he never made me feel insecure. He met me at my level, and has helped me with songs I wanted to learn. I highly recommend Jon.

Jon is AWESOME! His patient yet enthusiastic demeanor made my 9yr old look forward to her lessons, and really enjoy learning! I plan to continue with him as long as her interest holds!!!!

We love what Jon has taught our son. Our son has progressed so much in the past couple of years, and still enjoys meeting with his teacher despite him being a teenager. When you find a good teacher, you do all you can to stay with them.

At 52 years old, my wife treated to lessons for Christmas. I haven't played in 30 years. Although, I have had a few lessons with several different instructors back in my 20's, I never felt any direction. I always heard 'you got it. just keep playing'. Unfortunately, I stopped as nothing made sense.
I have learned a ton from Jon in only 5 lessons. Bits and pieces are all quickly coming together. I have a long way to go, but know more already than I ever have. Jon is fun, friendly, and has a great demeanor for teaching. If he has the patience to teach me, he's the right guy for you.

Jon is understanding of the student's needs. He is friendly and made my son feel welcome immediately.

I went to Jon with absolutely no musically background or training. He has been very patient and I have been amazed at how much I have learned in just a few months. I have not only learned quite a bit about playing the guitar, but I’ve also gained a greater awareness and appreciation of music. I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Wonderful time and attention given to me... A+...

Jon knew right away what I needed... Jon drew out cords and progression for me to study. He also advised me how to prolong my sequences and progressions. Fun learning environment...

Jon immediately saw my playing ability and provided written lesson plans, and explained/described what benefits deeper music notation and music reading would do for me. Jon is very straight foward no nonsense instructor, A+...

John is an excellent teacher and has a great personality to teach. I enjoy learning from him.

With more than 20 years experience, and the variety of ages and genres that Jon has taught, he provides a unique and personalized approach to each of his students. Professional, educated and personable - I highly recommend Jon for anyone looking to learn any one of the many instruments that he offers in his curriculum!

Jon is awesome, fun, skilled, great personality. Highly recommend for all ages

My son looks forward to his lessons with Jon as he makes learning to play guitar fun. I highly recommend Jon to anyone wanting get the most out of learning this instrument.

Jon has exceeded my hopes and expectations as an instructor. His depth of knowledge in all aspects of guitar instruction continues to be an inspiration to me in my journey with the guitar.

Jon is a great teacher. He is very patient with my 8 year old and has been very flexible in working with us if we need to reschedule. He makes sure that she continues to build her basic skills (musical notation, playing techniques, etc.) while also making it fun by using current songs. He is amazing- would highly recommend him!

Works really well with my 11-year old son and treats him with respect. My son looks forward to the lessons.

My daughter loved her first lesson! She is excited to go back.

My son feels very comfortable with Jon. Jon's enthusiasm and passion for music and teaching is very evident. My son can't wait for his next lesson and practices diligently.

I have been working with Jon for coming up on a year and i am thrilled. a great guy who has the knowledge/skill with the guitar, but also excellent ability to communicate. even when i couldn't get something (my own inability) he found other ways of presenting/teaching that make a difference - i highly recommend Jon for beginners (i was one) and experienced players alike
Amazing Teacher
Jon is a great teacher, I went in not having any experiance. Jon has taken his time with me and Ive learned so much in the month that I have been taking lessons. All and all hes the perfect guy for the job.
Amazing teacher!
Jon is a very good teacher. He takes the time to explain the concepts of the lesson for the week and then presents a good example of style and technique to help make me a better player.
