Improve your drawing skills with an artist who has exhibited in the MoMa, TIME magazine, and more

I am a professional artist with a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting, and works that have been displayed at the MoMa in New York, the Museum of African American Culture in Houston, TIME Magazine, and more. My drawing lessons will be specifically tailored to you and your personal goals, while also maintaining a flexible structure. I find most art teaching to be much too limiting, and while our lessons will go over traditional techniques, we will also be finding your personal style and strengths. We will uncover the importance of line weight, learn how to shade, learn how to draw from life, learn how to draw hyper-realistically, and much more. In addition, we will go over helpful physical tools that i've found instantly make me a better artist. I believe everyone has the ability to be an amazing draftsman, and just needs the proper instructing.

Hello! I am a professional artist who has exhibited in many galleries and museums, publications and more all over the country. I have received both the Pullock-Krasner grant and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant for my artistic ability. My work includes drawing, painting, printmaking, and even woodwork and sculpture. I believe anyone can learn to be highly proficient in any medium as long as they learn to love art in their own personal manner, and follow where their inclinations lead them. I will not only teach artists how to be proficient in the medium they choose, but also how to fall in love with art-making in a deep and unique way.

My husband purchased art lessons for me as a gift. I have taken 4 lessons in acrylic painting from John and have one lesson remaining. I’m a beginner. I explained a bit about my art experience and sent him examples of my work before our first lesson. He has tailored my lessons based on the information I provided. I have found John to be very personable, professional, encouraging, and knowledgeable and would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in painting or drawing. 😊👍🏻🎨

John is an amazing teacher! Before our session john laid out a lesson plan catered to my needs. When we hopped into the zoom meeting the setting was very comfortable and open. I had many mind-blowing moments during our lesson where john taught me techniques I’ve never seen before (trust i’ve done a lot of digging on youtube). I left the lesson feeling instantly inspired and ready to practice what I learned. 10000000% worth it and I will be coming back for another lesson. ps. even went over our time to make sure I grasped a technique + recorded and was sent our session. Very thoughtful instructor. *** for anyone looking for painting based drawing lessons... this is the instructor for you.

Omg! John is beyond what I had expected in painting lessons! Very clear, thorough and extremely patient!!! Encouraging and inspiring!!! He has a way of showing me colors and values that literally blew my mind. I’ve had only a few lessons with him and I asked my boyfriend to please buy me more for my holiday gift. He is way underpriced for the artistic and instructional skill level he has! Has such an aura of humility that makes me not be intimidated and I’m comfortable to ask questions without fear of embarrassment. I look forward to many more lessons from him. I highly highly highly recommend John!!!
