    About John S.

Hello! My name is John S., and I've been teaching for about ten years now. I was born in Brooklyn, NYC in the summer of 1991 so I was still in my teens (albeit late) when I started teaching. I'm also a working musician and regularly play shows with more than a few groups, ranging from jazz and blues to funk to extreme metal to rock, classical, experimental, and back again. I also frequently play as a soloist and 'improvise' pieces loosely based around musical concepts or ideas. Aside from that I'm a writer, an avid practitioner of MMA, though I can't say I'm all that good, and I need to go camping once a year to survive, at the very least. I've been told I'm a fairly easy going teacher and I can say that's true to a degree - I let students learn in the way that is most comfortable for them, and in the process, the way that is most effective for them to learn the curriculum or material that they are learning about at the time. Hopefully you'll consider me as a teacher - I promise I'm not too harsh. Take care everyone!

    Experience

    Music Teacher

    Oct, 2021 - Present

    Preply

I teach guitar, both electric, classical, to beginners and adults alike. I also teach piano, ukelele, and the electric bass. I teach all ages, all styles, and have enjoyed it very much, and currently am teaching at Preply and have been for over a year now. I learned first with in person lessons (before Covid), at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. There I took lessons with Michael Rose and am currently taking lessons with Ron Jackson, who is the number one 7 string jazz guitarist in NYC. I continue to push myself in my practice routine so I will never not have new material to learn, and I love to teach to my students needs instead of teaching a strict curriculumn. I then went to Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2014, and have taught before, during, and after that time period. I have played countless live gigs, and still do here in Argentina, where I currently live. I have taught in both places, and I have taught classes that ranged from 2 -14 people, of all ages, from beginner to advanced. I hope you consider me as a teacher!
