I just moved back to the area from Nashville, Tennessee. I have been playing guitar since the age of six (23 years) and I absolutely love teaching!
I teach guitar, mandolin, bass, dobro, music theory and audio engineering. I have a Bachelor of Science from Full Sail University in Recording Arts and am currently working on my 2nd bachelors in Music Composition and Theory so as to obtain my Masters in Music Education.
I am familiar with both playing and teaching a wide variety of styles including rock, blues, bluegrass, classical, traditional Irish, pop, rockabilly, heavy metal, R&B and soul!
Have worked on a variety of projects as a composer for Film and Video games and a performing musician.
Some highlights include
-Have composed original orchestral music performed by the Detroit Chamber Orchestra
-Performed my arrangement of 'My Oh My' by the Punch Brothers with Jeff Coffin (of Dave Matthews Band and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones)
-'Boss Fight' music for Blood of the Werewolf (available on Steam)
-Composed musical 'stingers' for the sound effects library 'Heroes and Villains' by Blastwave effects. Stingers have been featured on Hulu
-Nominated for 'Best Original Score' at the Idyllwild Festival of Cinema in 2014
John is a natural teacher. He breaks down each concept into digestible pieces that makes it easy for students to understand. I am happy to recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning guitar.
John had me playing fun stuff - Clapton, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty - in the first couple of months, while still managing to sneak in the boring drills and theory in a way I didn’t even notice.
