    About John L.

I am a professional language teacher, specializing in second language acquisition. Although my focus has been primarily on helping students master the English language, as a fluent native speaker of Tagalog, I am also able to apply the same second language learning principles onto my home language. I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelors in English, where I studied advanced Filipino (Tagalog) and Philippine Literature. I also graduated from the University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education with a Master of Arts in Teaching, specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have studied second language learning theories extensively and know very well how to engage language learners so that their learning is not only exciting and engaging but also geared towards long-term practicality and sustainability. Tagalog students can expect to improve week to week in their vocabulary and phrasal knowledge. Every learner has a unique learning style; I teach students to release built up fears of learning a new language and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual learning styles. I can help any student to speak with freedom, confidence, and expression. I teach second language students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied world literature for 4 years, and second language teaching pedagogy for 2 years. I can teach students to read Tagalog and pursue excellence, to learn how to correctly pronounce challenging words, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student. My personal passion is language learning and I firmly believe that practice and repetition is essential to mastering any new language. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better Tagalog speaker!
