Fiddle with John L.

Hi! My name is John, and I'm available to teach in the Twin Cities area or online via the Takelessons Classroom. In my 9 years of teaching, I have helped students of all ages identify their interests and move toward them. My primary instrument is the fiddle, but I can also teach bluegrass guitar, piano, upright bass, banjo, mandolin, etc. I am mostly self-taught and I mostly play by ear, and this is often the approach that I try to share. This comes from my grounding in traditional Midwestern fiddling, which I learned by ear from the masters at Bethel Youth Fiddle Camp in Bethel, MO, where I now teach each summer. I can also help you learn many styles both old and new, including Old-time Stringband, Irish, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and others. I can also help you learn to accompany other singers or yourself. I try to give my students the tools that have helped me grow as a musician. I would also love to work with classical violinists wishing to branch out and gain insight into the world of fiddling.
