My name is John. I am a graduate of the music performance program at The University of California at Riverside. There I studied under several talented teachers including Dr. Tim Labor and Dr. Barbara Bennett, as well as Trumpeters Don Clarke, Richard Chasin, and Joshua Welchez. Since graduating I have been engaging in some freelance work both as a one on one private instructor, as well as a technician for Azusa High School's Jazz Ensemble.
In general I have always prized the value of personal instruction. Having come from a family of primarily educators I am well aware that the value a single teacher can have on a student is immeasurable. This appreciation has only been compounded since I have begun to teach myself. Though it takes time in music, visible progress is the one of the more profound feelings of accomplishment that can be felt. More than anything, that progress and achievement is my goal in teaching.
A jazz combo including 5-6 members depending on current needs. The group has traveled to Baja California to perform and plays from the Inland Empire to Orange County.
A 20's Era inspired Jazz outfit with the flavor of Indie and Rockabilly merged with blues and swing.
A 4 piece Classical Ensemble including 2 trumpets and 2 trombones. Repertoire ranged from 17th Century to 20th Century works.
I think that there should be a little more of note testing and learning because without learning the notes, it’s hard to play without knowing how to read the notes. But other than that, everything’s good.
