John was born and raised near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began playing the guitar and composing music at the age of twelve. From 2002 to 2004, John attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied classical guitar performance and became the guitarist for the University Jazz Ensemble. John transferred to Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2004. At Berklee, he performed in guitar quartets and quintets and majored in Composition. He received his Bachelor's Degree in May of 2012. *** Lesson Details *** As a private guitar instructor, my primary goal has always been the development of each students' musical creativity. Whether a student of mine hopes to become a songwriter, composer, or jazz guitarist or if they simply wish to learn guitar for their own enjoyment, I can guide them in the right direction. I firmly believe in the value of music theory, sight-reading, ear-training and music history. All of these aspects of music will be incorporated into each lesson. However, when I cover such material with students, I make sure that it directly relates to the style of music and/or material they are interested in learning. *** Studio Equipment *** Home Studio *** Travel Equipment *** I would expect the student to provide his or her own guitar, amplifier and cables. I would be willing to bring books, charts, sheet music and anything else that would be needed to teach each lesson. *** Specialties *** Although I teach guitar styles ranging from jazz, blues and rock to classical and folk, I am most proficient as a classical guitarist/teacher. The majority of my training as well as musical interest is in this style.

A great first experience ... John has been outstanding. He's very patient yet he keeps the train rolling. My son is a beginner but he has progressed very well and enjoys his guitar sessions with John. It has been a very positive experience. John is a great teacher.
