- Teaches students:
- Ages 7 to 70
- Teaching since:
I began playing piano at age 7, teaching at age 20, and touring Europe at age 24 playing keyboards for a Christian band and living in the Paris area.
My parents started me off and kept me going with piano until it went from being a chore to becoming a joy and, at times, a livelihood that has allowed me to make friends and build relationships that will last a lifetime.
While living in Paris I learned by accident that not only could I play music but I had an ear for arranging and producing. Over the years I have produced 9 cds including two of my own original music. I believe that playing and listening and the "feel" of a good rhythm along with a great melody line are all a part of the teaching experience.
I have a teaching degree in Music from Portland State University and have picked up other instruments along the way, including acoustic and electric guitar, bass, banjo, and even an electric sitar that I never could quite figure out. Just the opportunity to be in the store in New Delhi India where George Harrison learned how to play sitar was worth the effort!
Improvising and accompanying soloists and playing with bands are important to me as well as solo piano. These are very important areas of music that can serve a student well if they have those inclinations.
