Sewing with Johanna G.

Hi, my name's Johanna, and I am a friendly, easy-going, passionate 22 year old seamstress who has been sewing since age 15! I began teaching sewing lessons at a needle arts shop, Stitchers' Dream, in my hometown in June 2010 when I was 15 years old. I taught informative and professional yet laidback and stress-free lessons to both children and adults of all age ranges and skill levels. Now, a graduate of Boston University living and working full-time in Los Angeles, I teach two kids' sewing classes every Saturday at Miss Shannon's Sewing in Valley Village, and am looking to expand my class schedule! I am very knowledgeable about the art of sewing, can operate just about any type of sewing machine, and am extremely patient and dedicated to my students' success. Sewing students can work on my own personal machine (a Husqvarna Viking - a great quality machine!), or use their own if they have one. Students will learn everything from machine operation, cutting and reading patterns, garment construction, taking measurements, adding finishing touches, and so much more! I sew my own clothing, accessories, and home decor for fun, and also have my own Etsy shop where I sell my handmade goods. In college, I was a costume designer for several theatrical productions, and made plenty of costumes for the shows. Although I never officially taught knitting lessons at my old job at Stitchers' Dream, I am a skilled knitter who is able to provide beginner lessons to knitters. I taught several people the basics of knitting during high school, and have created several garments and accessories throughout the 8 years that I have been knitting, including headbands, hats, scarves, slippers, and a sweater. I am able to help students understand knitting patterns, and purchase the correct yarn and needles for their project.
