Joey is the best kind of teacher--he challenges my son and makes it fun for him. He pushes my son outside of his comfort zone, but in a good way. My son's technique and tone have improved so much. And best of all, he's really enjoying Joey as his teacher!

Joey has been teaching piano to my 9 year old son for almost a year now. We are very happy with the relationship our son and Joey have, and with our son’s progress. My husband and I both studied music in college, and we’ve both been music teachers at various points in our careers. We know a solid teacher when we see one. Joey somehow manages to set high expectations for our son while remaining laid back and fun. He lets our son explore different types of music as our son’s interest changes. We find that flexibility refreshing and necessary to keep young kids interested. Out of all his activities, our son loves piano the most, and a lot of that has to do with the quality of teaching he receives from Joey. Speaking of flexibility, Joey has adapted his teaching seamlessly to teaching via zoom (his lessons were previously taught in our home), and even put together a lovely virtual recital for all the kids in his studio during the covid-19 social distancing situation. We heard about Joey from friends, and continue to recommend him to others.

Joey is knowledgable and talented in his craft. My energetic five year old son looks forward to his lessons each week. Joey is an experienced teacher, his lesson structure and management skills keep my son on task and learning. He is patient and flexible. We highly recommend Joey as a music teacher. These lessons are an investment in our child’s future and we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have found Joey.

Joey swiftly switch led to on-line lessons when school closed.
The lessons continues and we’re greatly received and appreciated.
Of course in person lessons are better, however, Joey manages to keep my son engaged and continue practice on both saxophone and piano.
Highly recommend!! Joey is highly professional, very knowledgeable and able to keep great rapport with students.

My son greatly enjoys playing the saxophone, and in particular he likes jazz. This is in a large part due to the lessons with Joey. He has learned a lot from Joey, and is now one of the better saxophone players at his age group, including making all-state Jazz band last year. My son always gets a lot of advice and encouragement from Joey. He does in-home lessons, which are very convenient. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we smoothly transition to on-line lessons.

We feel very fortunate to have found Mr. Joey for our two kids (7&9). We knew from day 1 that we had someone very special teaching our kids. Both of our children look forward to the quality lessons that Mr. Joey provides and they practice eagerly during the week. He came highly recommended by three other families and now that he is in our lives, I completely understand why!

We love joey!!! He's a great teacher because he teaches the way that is right for the student. He comes to our house twice a week to teach our 5-year-old son, who wasn't particularly interested in learning the songs from the book, scales, etc, so Joey changed it up to make it fun for him by focusing on making up songs and improvising (while still sneaking in some of the technical stuff). Our son looks forward to his lessons so much! Joey is obviously a masterful pianist and could teach at any skill level.

Joey is a gifted musician and even more gifted teacher. My 14 year old has been taking piano lessons with Joey for about eighteen months now. We lived in San Diego for a year and my son started in person with him for close to ten months. Joey's teaching style and connection with my son was so effective that we decided to continue lessons via Skype. My son is a highly gifted kid for whom lots of learning comes easily. Not so with music, but he is inspired and motivated by Joey. Joey's ability to meet the learner where they are and push them beyond their normal comfort zone is impressive. I am very, very glad that we found him. Joey's teaching style is engaging and encouraging while holding the learner accountable to practice, development, and growth. I wholeheartedly recommend him for both in person and online lessons.

Joey has been teaching piano to our now 8 and 11 yo boys for more than a year. Although my kids aren't musical per say and don't tend to practice during the week, thanks to Joey their piano skills are impressive! Without ignoring the theory, Joey was able to adapt his teaching style to their personalities and has taught them to play their favorite songs. My younger son was so excited to to learn Fall out Boy's "Centuries" he would run to the piano to practice! Both boys are clearly proud of their accomplishments and love to show them off to their friends. Thank you Joey!

It is too early to make a conclusion about Joey's teaching style after just one lesson. But I love the way he communicated with my son, the way he explained thing and encouraged my son. He is very passionate about the instrument and the music. I hope we will be able to work out the schedule for our future lessons.

We have been incredibly pleased with Joey. He teaches (and motivates) both of my young children who have completely different learning styles. Joey understands and adapts to them at each lesson. He sets consistent goals and expectations for progress each week but never loses sight of the concept that learning should be joyful. My kids have never protested that they have to take piano lessons and I attribute this to the fact that they really like working with Joey.
