I have been playing guitar since the age of 15. I started out playing folk guitar and was introduced to classical guitar in college. I have both a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in elementary education, with a concentration in music.  After college, I continued to study guitar with private lessons, master classes at summer workshops, and Suzuki teacher training.  In Pennsylvania, I served as a board member for both the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association and the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.  I was president of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society in 2009 and in 2010 became the founding President of the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society.  In 2013 I began attending folk music events in Florida and returning to my folk music roots, but continue to play with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Ensemble.  Together with my duo partner, Taafkab Etalia, who plays acoustic bass, I play classical, folk, and light pop music.  We play at art shows, assisted living facilities, and restaurants on Florida’s Treasure Coast. I direct monthly folk music jams at Jam Music Store in Port St. Lucie. I have been involved in Christian music ministry since I was in college. I directed the Contemporary Ensemble at St. Eleanor Church in Collegeville, PA and  I am presently part of the music ministry at Holy Family Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida. I have been teaching guitar since 1976.   In 1997 I began teaching Suzuki classical guitar and had a very successful music studio in Collegeville, PA. I moved my music studio to Port St. Lucie, Florida in December 2009 and enjoy living in sunny Florida with all its parks and beaches. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to my students. I have completed Suzuki teacher training, which is a special classical guitar method also known as the "mother tongue method." It is designed to teach young children to play a musical instrument in the same way that they learned to talk from their mothers. My Suzuki training permeates all my teaching, whether I am teaching classical guitar, folk guitar, or other acoustic styles. I also include instruction in note reading and music theory for all my students. For young children, music theory is taught with games away from the guitar. I try to inspire my students with my love of music and offer them patient teaching so that everyone can learn to play this wonderful instrument. *** Studio Equipment *** Ruben Flores Classical Guitar Crafter Classical Electric Guitar hand drums, maracas, and other small percussion instruments music flash cards, wipe-off music staff slates, rhythm bingo game, barrel of monkeys, Tic Tac Tony, large dice, and other games *** Specialties *** Suzuki Guitar for Children, Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Folk Music, Christian music
