In the world of music, I have lots of interests and work outlets. I just completed my Master's of Music in Piano Pedagogy at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities, whether through my home studio or through piano courses at Lancaster Bible College in central PA. Of course I enjoy performing from time to time when I get the chance, whether solo, with a chamber group, with a vocalist, or my personal favorite--musical theater gigs!
My preference is towards traditionally "classical" piano, though I want to work towards the passions, goals, and projects of my students as best I can. Having been a professional accompanist for 8 years, I have a lot to offer in the areas of sight reading, collaborative piano, and performance/memory strategies. I also love exploring and incorporating music theory so that students understand not only how to play the instrument, but why it works the way it does, and how an understanding of theory can facilitate a great technical toolkit.
I want my lessons to be fun and professional. I believe it's possible to offer a high standard of musical excellence while also being a time to enjoy the craft. Humor is a key component in my personality! I believe that if you pin hard work and raw talent next to each other for the long run, hard work will pay off more each and every time. That's why I love working with people of all levels--I love helping others see problems from different angles and figuring out how to solve them!
In my extra time I like to compose music, whether for solo piano, or in a completely different vein, for independent mobile games. I have a passion for music in video games, particular in the Final Fantasy and Warcraft franchises, to which I owe my love of music. These and other outlets inspire my own compositions as well!
*I also love to both watch and play ice hockey! The fast pace, intensity, and decision making are fascinating to me.
Joe is a fantastic pianist and is able to communicate musical concepts in a way that helps anyone understand them. While valuing excellence, he truly wants students to learn and does everything in his power to help them succeed. I would definitely recommend him as a piano teacher!+ Read More
Joe is a really fun and easygoing instructor. He's great at explaining musical concepts and theories to beginners, like myself, by breaking down the complex concepts and making them simple and easy to understand.
