Hi there! I am Joanne, born and raised in NYC, where I earned my B.A. in Drama from Hofstra University and my dual master’s degrees in Theater and English Education from New York University. I have years of experience in directing and acting professionally in New York. I have also worked as a teaching artist for seven years, in addition to facilitating workshops, throughout New York City. I recently sold my theatre in North Hollywood called: The Avery Schreiber Playhouse, where I produced over a hundred plays and children shows. I also taught drama at the prestigious Brentwood School. Let me coach you in the area of the Performing Arts you need help with. I have taught many successful artists who are now performing in hit television shows, singing alongside Placido Domingo at the LA Opera, and writing hit Off Broadway productions. My approach is individualized to cater to the specific needs of the student I work with. I specialize in Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Producing, and Public Speaking. My daughter has been taking lessons with Joanne for the past several months. She loves Joanne and enthusiastically looks forward to her lesson each week! Our family has had no prior experience with acting in any capacity, and Joanne has ignited a true passion for the craft in my daughter. Joanne really understands and knows how to connect with children; she is very kind, patient and experienced. My daughter describes her as awesome and super-fun! I loved working with Joanne! She directed me in a play(Sex In Manhattan) and I really enjoyed and benefited from her ability to direct. She was motivating and inspiring and gave excellent notes for me as an actor. I just returned from being oversea for many years as I was acting in action movies in Asia and one of the first people I contacted was Joanne to see what she was working on. I would love to work on another play if she puts something up and would recommend any actor to try and audition or take classes from her. The Magic Mirror Theater

I started The Magic Mirror Theater Company in 2009 because I was motivated to teach young people the Theater Arts in an environment where they were actively participating in the production. My motto was: Why spend money on acting classes when you can learn and be in a professional theater production? My youth theater company specialized in providing young actors (ages 5 to 18) the opportunity to learn theater in a supportive environment where integrity, commitment, trust and creativity lied at the heart of the program. My students went on and booked lead parts in hit television shows, commercials, theater productions, as well as the La Opera! I still coach many of them today.

I was hired to take over for the drama teacher at the prestigious Brentwood School who needed to take a maternity leave. My students and I successfully produced two shows during that time, in which were entirely wrote and directed by the students.

I was hired to launch the first Drama and Dance Department at Junior Highs School 194 in Whitestone, Queens. This program is still thriving. I am very proud of the work I did with these students. As a NYC teacher I was held accountable for meeting standards and holding students accountable for their work.
