Levels taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I am happy to teach intermediate to advanced students who want to improve their capacities as a musician. You can expect a regimented lesson plan that will help you reach your goals in an efficient manner if you are willing to put the time and effort in.

For my students, the necessary foundation consists first of knowing all seven modes of the major scale across the entire fretboard in all 12 keys, all barre chord shapes, and the ability to read standard music notation. If these fundamentals are not mastered at the time of the first lesson, half of the lesson will be dedicated to teaching them, and the other half will be dedicated to learning one song that a student will commit to learning for that group of lessons.

Once the fundamentals are mastered, the entire lesson can be dedicated to becoming fluent in whatever style(s) they desire to play at an advanced and professional level at. This is done through transcriptions of bass parts from records, analyzing transcriptions, aural transcriptions. The basics of building basslines, how to play with a metronome and band, and the important interaction between the bassist and drummer are some of many topics that will be covered. Music expression and interpretation will be an ever-recurring theme throughout my lessons from day one.

About Jesse S.

My name is Jesse and I am a guitarist who lives in Seattle, WA. I graduated from the University of Southern California with Cum Laude Honors in 2015 who maintains a busy schedule performing in the Seattle metropolitan area. I have a decade and counting worth of experience as a professional guitarist.

Though my background and training are in jazz, I teach students in funk, rock, and pop music as well, for I also perform in those genres. I am only accepting advanced students who are willing to put the work and practice in that is necessary to improve. It’s my job to help students achieve goals through tailoring lessons towards their learning styles. In the first lesson, we will cover your goals, and I’ll design lessons and weekly assignments to help you achieve them. If you have any questions, please contact me in the chat box. You can see my schedule and availability as well.

I've been taking lessons with Jesse for 9 months now, and highly recommend him. While, he is very knowledgeable and specializes in jazz guitar, he has also helped me learn several pop tunes that I have been interested in.

I have been taking lessons from Jesse for almost a year.

Jesse is a fantastic guitar player, and
he is an experienced and effective teacher.

From the first lesson he has been clear, concise, and serious about my progress on the guitar and bass guitar.

Jesse displays a strong passion for guitar playing and teaching and his in depth understanding of the subject comes across in his lessons.

His lessons are very well thought out. I would highly recommend Jesse if you want to take your guitar playing to the next level.

I have been a friend of Jesse's since Highschool.. I have always admired his positive approach to music, the guitar, and anything else he speaks of. Recently, we had a Skype lesson and I had asked Jesse about accompaniment, (as singing and playing is something I want to move forward with)...his time spent with me was organized, precise, and very very knowledgeable as well as enjoyable! I felt I was gettin a clear sense of were to start and how to approach what I want to work on. Also, Skype lessons are logged so all the information is stored, and you can go back and revisit the material. Jesse is an excellent musician and instructor. Even if you are not a guitar player, any instrumental principle could work with him and grow from a duo setting experience.

I took lessons from Jesse when he was at USC. As a beginner I found his teaching style easy to follow and with practice I improved quicker than another teacher I tried. Would highly recommend him to any other students.

He's the best because I don't have anyone else to compare him to. Also he is amazing at teaching the basics! Went through what other instructors would do in 2 months in a single week! (Nate - age 9)

My daughter is 14 years old and although she had been playing the guitar for several years she was ready to advance to jazz guitar. She began lessons with Jesse and it was instant progress, she always enjoys the lessons and she is really good thanks to the constant support of her teacher Jesse, she plays in the school jazz band and has shown huge improvement over the past year. Jesse is extremely flexible which has really helped us with our daughters busy schedule. I would recommend Jesse to anyone interested in quality guitar lessons.

Jesse is an excellent guitarist who knows more tunes than you could ever imagine. He's knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and willing to adapt to many styles. He is rooted in jazz, but can teach to any preference. I highly recommend him for guitarists of any age/skill level in the market for a young teacher that is a quality veteran in his own right!

Jesse is very good at articulating his thoughts and being able to express those in his teaching in a way that is easy to understand. I would highly recommend taking lessons from Jesse no matter what style you are trying to learn.
