I have been teaching and coaching actors for over 20 years. My students work professionally on stage, TV and film. Within the first few lessons, you will understand how to create a character. Soon, you will have the skills to book a role. I specialize in method acting, but draw upon my experience at The Second City (improvisation) in Chicago and other training I have had. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels; I can't wait to meet you!

About Jeremy K.

In addition to working professionally an as actor for over 25 years, I graduated from the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where I majored in drama.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are your lessons like?
A: My lessons are tailored for you. After understanding your goal, we do acting exercises and improvisations; we work on comedic and dramatic scripted dialogue and monologues. By the end of every session, I want you to feel like you have learned something and grown.

Q: Can acting make you more confident and funnier?
A: Yes! Acting will allow you to take risks and sometimes be silly. These experiences can be liberating.

Q: I’ve always wanted to be an actor, but can I really do it?
A: Acting is an incredible way express yourself creatively. If you want to act, there are plenty of opportunities - in a professional setting as well as in a community setting; you can fulfill your need and it can be exhilarating.

Q: I have studied acting for years. How can you help me?
A: I can help you work on a specific part and help you use the Method in order to create real behavior - go deeper in your acting.

Q: What is Method acting?
A: Method acting is reality acting - creating real behavior instead of pretending. I'd love to tell you more about it and how to use it in your acting. Let's talk!

Acting is the art of bringing a character to life. I use the Lee Strasberg Method, my original exercises, and a fun and serious demeanor to help actors express themselves as artists and gain the confidence and skills they need in order to book acting jobs.

My book, "The Young Actor's Handbook", is published by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books. "The Young Actor's Handbook" ignites the beginning actor's creative soul with acting exercises, acting theory, writing exercises and insight into what it means to be an actor. This is a pragmatic manual that guides and informs the young actor, beginning actor, novice acting teacher or anyone who wants to understand acting.

Vincent D'Onofrio Testimonial
"Jeremy Kruse's book, "The Young Actor’s Handbook", leads the young actor on the correct path. Jeremy is an experienced acting teacher who has broken down acting in an academic way while nurturing the soul of the actor. He understands the emotional aspects of good acting. I commend Jeremy and believe he has accomplished quite a feat in writing "The Young Actors Handbook."

I have always had a whimsical imagination along with a tendency to "think funny". As a younger man I have experimented with stand up comedy. The writing process I really enjoyed. The performance part always felt dreadful. The main problem, I think, was my proclivity towards over analyzing. I was comfortable "up in my head" and usually avoided living "in the moment". For me "flowing" was a private matter, not social.

My ultimate "dream come true" would be to have the opportunity to be part of a comedic writer's group. Imagine being part of Sid Caesar's writing sessions with Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Carl Reiner et al! How I would have loved to be part of that community!

Now I live in an "active retirement community". None of those comedy dreams have come to pass.

One night (after watching a marathon portion of The Kaminsky Method on Netflix) I felt ready to explore my own creative potential for the theater community. I found "Take Lessons" online, and saw that Jeremy had devoted years accumulating both academic and practical experience in the world of performing arts.

My own private hope was that if I could somehow connect the art with the craft, and thereby discover ways to both overcome what blocked me and at the same time have fun, then I might open the possibility of unlocking a medium of expression for my own imagination, and thereby find some means of participating with other kindred spirits in theatrical projects.

Jeremy agreed to meet me where I was at. He was willing to custom tailor his lessons to my own idiosyncratic needs. We agreed to one class a week with a ten week commitment. After every one hour class I have a whole week to process what we have opened up in the previous session.

After my third lesson I find that Jeremy's flexibility and personal attention has provided me with the freedom to participate in structuring my own advanced learning experience. I have already, with just two private lessons, produced two short scripts by transcribing our recorded online improvisations. I don't know yet how others will respond to these skits. I think they are both funny.

Perhaps one of the amateur theater groups here in the retirement community will be interested in producing my skits as a montage. Then I can observe how my words come across to an audience. Believe me when I say I appreciate how rare and valuable such an experience is. As any mature artist will tell you, our culture is sorely lacking in places to try things out, especially when your creations are likely to bomb.

Honestly, I don't know anywhere else I could have found such a unique opportunity. Jeremy is knowledgeable, understanding and supportive. I highly recommend him as a teacher for any kind of performing art.

Jeremy does a great job with our 11yo son, who was furious when he found out I’d booked him acting lessons to help him with a drama he is currently involved in. Today he was smiling and grinning and trying out different voices for fun! Thank you, Jeremy!

Jeremy has gone above and beyond to get to know who my son is as a person in order to direct his instruction. Jeremy took the time to research my son's potential high school so as to prepare for the interview and audition process. Most importantly Jeremy has approached his lessons as an opportunity for my son to explore what creative talents he may have as well as giving him a chance to do the things he enjoys most. AND Jeremy gives parents feedback! Real, honest, actionable feedback. I have been very impressed.

After my first film audition, in as many years, it was quite evident I needed an acting instructor. For months, I looked high and low to find the right one. I wanted an instructor who could challenge me, yet in a nurturing manner. An instructor who can speak confidently about the craft. Above all, an instructor you look forward to seeing every session. Jeremy Kruse is all that and then some.

Within weeks of pairing up, my acting style/delivery is far more conversational. Plus, I’m more at ease when working to find the true essence of a character to develop and make my own.

I always walk away from Jeremy’s sessions learning something new. Jeremy’s constant encouragement has propelled my confidence, as an actor, to another level.

Initially, I wasn’t really into the idea of taking acting classes via FaceTime. The idea sounded so impersonal and potentially distracting, not with Jeremy. It's as if he's working with you, face-to-face, in a studio.

In addition to acting, Jeremy has been so supportive with my first attempt in writing a screenplay. He's such a creative influence.

The secret is out, Jeremy Kruse is the "Best Instructor Ever"! Working with him makes my dreams of becoming an accomplished actor a reality. Thanks Jeremy!

I have had a wonderful experience with Jeremy. I am completely new to acting- I am a physician and wanted to improve my public speaking skills and my "stage presence" so to speak. Jeremy has been incredibly helpful with this! He has done a great job of teaching me some basics about acting, and also tailoring the lessons to meet my goals. Also, it has been really fun! I highly recommend Jeremy as a teacher.

Jeremy was great with my 7 year old daughter. He was patient and helpful at giving her pointers. I felt comfortable not being present during the classes. I would recommend Jeremy for anyone looking to get their child more experience with auditions.

Jeremy Kruse is a working actor and an excellent coach who showed me how fun and rewarding a career in film and television could be. Being a student of Jeremy's for almost two whole years, I looked to him as both a mentor and a friend. He taught everything from breaking down a script to being typecast for a role; even going as far to recreate the physical conditions of an audition space. Since departing from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, he's been supportive of my own endeavors as a rising actor, both putting me in touch with a voiceover coach and encouraging me to take up improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade. I began working with Jeremy my first year of highschool and have witnessed firsthand how well his contagious enthusiasm and cultivated professionalism influences his pupils, no matter their age or level of experience. Now four years later, I can say with confidence that were it not for Jeremy Kruse and my class with him every Saturday for 80 weeks, I wouldn't be as devoted as I am today to pursuing acting as a career.

I was one of Jeremy's acting students at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute last year, and i can say honestly he was and still remains my favorite acting teachers i have ever had. He is so incredibly talented himself and passionate about acting and it makes the student even more passionate. He took time to personally help each student and didn't just address us as a whole. His class is fun and very very helpful! He also teaches you about some of the business and tips for auditioning, its not just acting, he is amazing and i miss his class always:)!He also took headshots for my class which I've gotten parts with!:) Everyone take his class!

I have taken Jeremy's Acting in Front of the Camera class and have loved every second of it. He is a very experienced and professional coach, but also very fun and easy going, which makes for a great acting coach. He has a lot of insight in the business and taught me all the technical aspects of acting for film and TV, but also focused on the most important part, getting into character and really understanding the scene. Jeremy is a great teacher and I loved being in his class.
