My name is Jennifer. I got my degree in vocal performance and minored in Jazz. I began voice lessons myself when I was eight. I am a mezzo soprano, and can teach both female and male voices. I have performed in several opera productions including but not limited to The Marriage of Figaro, Dido and Aeneus, Tenderland, and Hand of Bridge. I have worked and performed in masterworks by Brahms, Chopin, Mozart to name a few. I studied in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German. I studied diction, ear training, piano, music history, pedagogy, and music theory. I have also performed with artists such as New York Voices, Bobby Mcferrin and Kurt Elling. I was blessed with many learning opportunities to grow in my passion and I would love to pass that knowledge and passion to anyone who wants to learn.
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are designed around the needs of each student. The first lessons is always spent testing range, knowledge and abilities already known by the student. Then the student weighs in on what kind of music they would like to learn and what they hope to gain from the lessons. Theory and ear training are incorporated into the lessons. We work on breathing, technique and style. Generally we start with English or Italian. We work on vocal performance from a classical standpoint but Jazz and Broadway can also be taught if desired by the student. Scales and exercises are given each week to be worked on until the next lesson. A recording device is encouraged if the student cannot play the piano. Also, a voice note book to take notes during the lesson to be used during practice during the week.
*** Specialties ***

Studied piano, vocal pedagogy, ear training, theory, diction, music history, jazz performance and ensemble work throughout the entirety of earning my degree as well as continuing to take private voice lessons myself.

Jennifer is a talented and passionate teacher. Not only did she help me with technique, she helped me feel more confident in my singing. She is a fantastic coach who made me a better singer after only a few lessons!
She's super patient with me, and slows down to my pace while still pushing me weekly. It's really nice that she's knowledgeable on music theory too, beyond just good at piano.
My daughter loves her lessons!
She worked well with me gauging my ability and being patient and humoring my questions and mistakes.
She was great. Very knowledgeable and my daughter was very comfortable with her and thought she was super nice. We are looking forward to much success with her :)
Jenn was really great with our daughter, knew how to work with a child's voice.
Jenn is an excellent instructor who builds comfort and confidence in every learner through her tailored instruction to meet your needs and skill level.
Jennifer is excellent. She does a great job evaluating the level of our son and then provides instruction and practice lessons that 'stretch' him appropriately.
She is the best teacher ever, she brings out the best out of my daughter.
Incredible teacher! I am really looking forward to my next lesson.
My daughter get along with her very well. Jennifer is great with young children which is a relief for me as a father. She is very approachable, adaptable and gives the lessons at an appropriate pace.
Jennifer is a terrific and patient teacher. She takes the time to make sure you understand the ideas she is expressing. I have had lessons in the past, but they were never as interesting as they are with Jennifer, and I am old !
I just recently had my first recital with all thanks to Jen Tyler. She is patient, encouraging and always does whats best for the student. She has taught me so much and always motivates me to do better!
My 11 year old daughter has been working with Jennifer for a little over one year. Isabela, not only is learning to control her voice but how to read the music for the cues on how to sing the song (tempo, inflection, etc). Jennifer's structure of working on one technical piece and one piece that the student is interested in keeps my daughter learning and happy to attend lessons. Jennifer is also extremely patient with my daughter, who is a curious child and likes to drift her attention. We look forward to working with Jennifer for along time.+ Read More

Patient with my daughter and very understanding.
Jenn has been working with my daughter for about 18 months. She was a complete beginner when she started, outside of singing in the chorus at school. My daughter very much enjoys working with Jenn and they have fun while still getting the job done. Jenn is soft spoken and kind which is what I wanted. She is great about letting the kids work often on songs they like which makes it more interesting for the student. My daughter loves musical theater and Jenn has helped her with some audition pieces as well. And having the lessons at home is such a help to me! Give her a try! You won't be disappointed!+ Read More
Very professional. I could tell quite a difference after 5 lessons.
I really liked Jennifer. I had a very specific reason why I wanted to take lessons. I wanted to sing a specific song at a memorial service for my mother. I have always been self conscious about my singing voice . After the very first lesson I started feeling better about being able to pull this off. She is very supportive and a really compassionate person. She actually agreed to go to the service to play the panino so I could more comfortably sing this song....need I say more about Jennifer?+ Read More
I've been taking lessons from Jen for a while now, and I must say that I've improved dramatically since I started. Jen specifically focuses on the musical style that you like while still using classical methods to make sure the proper form and technique is learned.
First thing she did was to make sure I had proper form, breathing and technique before moving on to more advanced topics. This way bad habits are removed quickly, which is crucial to push through to the next level and break vocal plateaus.
I would recommend Jen as a vocal teacher for any style and age without hesitation. Great person to talk to, knowledgeable, and most of all fun. There are times when it gets frustrating, but working with Jen makes it a challenge and rewarding when you can hear yourself getting better.
Keeping playing; music never sleeps!!
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I'm a lead singer for a rock band, but I've never had any kind of singing lessons. Jennifer has been doing an awesome job working with me to improve my sound. Even though I am already a singer, I'm still basically a beginner and she's helping me shed some bad habits and tendencies and trying to get me to use specific techniques. Who knew I needed to learn how to breathe? Things as simple as learning the basics, are already helping my sound. And as we continue to dive deeper into these lessons, I can't wait to hear how it's all going to make a difference for my band!+ Read More
